a francophone thinking that word doesn't have a Latin root.

1. I speak both French and Italian.

2. 30% of Italian words don't have a latin root. So, it wasn't all that implausible.

This reminds me of a Family Guy quote when the Griffins are playing a civil rights board game that Cleveland brought over and Peter gets a card that reads "for whistling at a white woman, go directly to jail" and Peter says "does anyone win at this game?" and Cleveland says "you don't win, you just do a little better each time."

You'd have to replace "better" with "worse" for this quote to make sense, though.
