Why on earth would you pick the BJP?

There are a lot of National Conservatives and right wing populists on that list ( more than the ones I bolded, it was just TOMH), so its logical. Its weirder that he fx chooses such a moderate party as PO in Poland given his choices elsewhere.

US: Ordinarily a Democrat, may vote Green if I don't like the Democrat and that seat is safe.
UK: Probably Labour, though I'd at least consider Green if the district wasn't competitive and I didn't like the Labour candidate. Had AV or PR passed I'd probably be a Green there. In Scotland and Wales I'd probably be an SNP/Plaid Cymru voter, NFI about Northern Ireland.
Germany: Greens, I guess. May have supported SDP back in the day.
Canada: NDP. Only way I'd vote Liberal is if I lived in a Grit/Tory marginal.
Australia: Vote Green, preference Labor ahead of Liberal. Unless I lived in an electorate with a rather moderate Liberal (e.g. Malcolm Turnbull), and even then.....
New Zealand: See the UK. Except they actually have MMP, so.....
France: Urgh. I suppose I'd still support PS, but I would at least think about voting for Melencon's mob or the Greens over them in the first round.
Spain: Urgh. Podemos, I suppose. Not voting for a useless centrist patronage union party, or right-wingers. I hate the idea of hipster Stalinists though.
Ireland: Labour, other options are terrible.
Italy: Anti-Berlusconi....so the Democrats I guess?
Greece: SYRIZA.
India: INC (though my official position is anti-BJP).
Russia: A Just Russia. Reality is though Russia isn't a democracy, so what's the point?
South Africa: Democratic Alliance, or Malema's mob for the lols.
Zimbabwe: MDC. Like Russia though that's hardly a democracy either, though once Mugabe dies it may get interesting.

Don't really know enough about most other countries to make an informed judgement elsewhere.

Zimbabwe: MDC. Like Russia though that's hardly a democracy either, though once Mugabe dies it may get interesting.

MDC is split in three parties: MDC-T under Tsvangirai, MDC-N is the old 2005 moderate breakaway now under Welshman Ncube and then there is the "Tsvangirai is too authoritarian and incompetent" breakaway from 2014 the MDC Renewal Team. Currently MDC-N and MDC Renewal Team are negotiating a merger and hope to form an alliance with the other opposition parties such as Dumiso Dabengwa's ZAPU, the Mavambo/Kusile Dawn party led by Simba Makoni and the NGO alliance NCA.

I'd probs support MDC-T, if only because I share the same first name as the Mr. Tsvangirai.

Also would change to FdG or some other left-wing party in France, after hearing about the PS government over there.

Canadian provincial parties I support:
Ontario: lean NDP; liberals are good enough that I'd vote for them if NDP was 3rd in my riding
Quebec: Liberal, but QS where they are competitive
NB: Liberal
NFLD: Liberal, also the only place where I'd consider PC
PEI: Liberal

NS: NDP, but Liberal in 2013 as a protest against Dexter
MB: NDP
SK: NDP
AB: NDP
BC: NDP

Australia - 1) Green 2) Labour
France - EELV (protest vote)

UK - Labour
Germany - SPD
Spain - PSOE
Italy - PD
Greece - SYRIZA (protest vote)
Denmark, Sweden, Norway - Social Democrats/Labour
Uruguay - Broad Front
Portugal - Socialist
Austria - SPO

Ireland - Some independent (protest vote)
Russia - Just Russia
Brazil - PSB For president: Marina (first round) Dilma (second round)
Mexico - PRD
India - INC
Japan - Democratic

I'm more willing to vote for parties that are to my left than to my right, since I expect left-wing parties to shift to the centre in government while I don't expect right-wing governments to do so.

Especially in some European countries, I would have considered a protest vote for more radical parties like PoDemos in the EU elections because I don't approve of the social democrats's actions in the European parliament. If they followed their own platforms I would support them but right now they are only advancing the centre-right version of European integration.

Why PSOE? Wouldn't you ditch them ala PASOK/PS?
They aren't high up enough on my list of ignominious centre-left parties. I did say I might consider PoDemos in the EU elections but typically having a protest party actually govern makes me less comfortable than a more moderate party, unless that party in question really screwed the pooch like PASOK/PS. Or is PSOE as bad as they are? I'm not too versed in Spanish politics.

Australia: Christian Democratic Party
Austria: Freedom Party of Austria or Alliance for the Future of Austria
Canada: Christian Heritage Party of Canada or Western Block Party
Denmark: Danish People's Party
Finland: True Finns
France: Movement for France
Germany: The Republicans
Greece: Popular Orthodox Rally
Hungary: Jobbik
Ireland: Christian Solidarity Party
Italy: Forza Nuova
Netherlands: Reformed Political Party
Norway: The Christians
Poland: Right Wing of the Republic or National Revival of Poland
Portugal: National Renovator Party
Russia: LDPR
South Africa: Freedom Front Plus
Spain: Espaņa 2000
Sweden: National Democrats

So you think that religion has no place in public life and that religion is absolutely essential to public life?

Ignoring that I'd be way to right wing for most countries, here's what I would align with:

USA: Republican
UK: UK Independence Party
Germany: CDU
Israel: Likud
Canada: Conservative
Australia: National Party/ Liberal Party Coalition (I'd register Liberals as that is Abbott's party)
Denmark: Conservative People's Party
Italy: The People of Freedom Party
Russia: United Russia
France: Independent
Austria: OVP, Would've supported the Jewish National Party when it existed.
Ireland: Fine Gael
Spain: People's Party

Parties I would have at one time supported:

France: Union for a Popular Movement (I used to like Sarkozy)
UK: Tories (Cameron and those protests in London turned me off from the party)
Israel: Yisrael Beiteinu (Those Anti-American Jews ad's pissed me off. But Danny Ayalon is awesome and is making the party look better in my eyes. I hope he eventually becomes PM in
like 6 years.)

Well you and I are REALLY going to agree on a whole helluva lot. Even for the countries on the list that I wasn't aware of there politics (pretty much just Spain and Austria) I automatically knew it would have been the opposite of yours. Tongue

UK: Conservative Party
USA: Swing voter (would have happily voted for either Obama or Romney)
Germany: CDD
Sweden: Moderate
Netherlands: VVD
Ireland: Fianna Fail/Fine Gael
Norway: Conservative Party
Finland: National Coalition Party
Australia: Liberal Party
Canada:Conservative Party
Denmark: Venstre

I largely tend to support parties in the IDU internationally, or within the EPP-ED, ECR or (occasionally) the ALDE in the EU (although I'm personally a Eurosceptic).
