rumors from what? blogs? lol.
Meg Whitman? Seriously? Let's choose the woman who was crushed in her bid for elected official and can't hold her own on TV, interviews, debates, and had to stage town halls. If anything she's more plastic than Romney.

What about Christine O'Donnell or Sharron Angle?

Romney will need foreign policy experience and someone who is capable of both acceptable to independents and able to appease the base. This leaves Condi or perhaps Elizabeth Dole, who served on the Armed Services Committee (this is a stretch though).

None of the potential female VPs is all that likely this time around. People suggest Susana Martinez, but I don't see what the big deal is. And I think it's risky to pick someone who has no Washington experience, and thus isn't up to speed on national issues.
Maybe Kelly Ayotte or Cathy McMorris Rodgers? Neither of them is that likely, but no one else is either.

Kay Bailey Hutchison? Pro-choice, but a Southerner. Lots of experience, but maybe too old.

There's already a large percentage of the GOP base that thinks Romney is a closet liberal. This would be a dealbreaker.

Except Romney's at a bit of a disadvantage now, so you've got to balance the pros and cons. Does he concede, say, Georgia and South Carolina, to try and win Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and maybe Michigan?
I almost think it would be better for him to be a public moderate than a closet one.
Except I happen to believe Georgia and SC would still go for Romney, even if he did pick a pro-choice VP.

In 1996, Pat Buchanan threatened if Dole choose a pro-choice running-mate, he'll run as an independent.
And such sentiments among conservative Republicans only grew stronger since then.
A pro-choice on GOP ticket? Just forget.

When was the last time the GOP won with a pro choicer? Ever?
A pro choice VP could convert like Bush the elder did in 1980.

Nikki Haley? Young, charismatic, a minority. She's said she wouldn't do it, but the cardinal rule of running for Vice President is to act like you're not running for VP.

Romney can't pick someone who is currently pro-choice. He gets enough sh**t for pretending to be to the left of Ted Kennedy on that issue 18 years ago.

KBH is not pro-choice. I'll never understand where this misconception developed.

I think Condoleeza Rice would be a good choice, to give the ticket some foreign policy credentials. I think Meg Whitman would have been a top choice for him had she won the Governorship (they are close friends, successful businesswoman, from a large state). Kay Bailey Hutchison would be a possibility too, for reasons previously stated.

Like John McCain before him, I don't think Mitt Romney is in any position to be picking anyone perceived to be a moderate by the GOP base. If he is going to nominate a member of the fairer sex, she is going to have to be a Tea Party darling like Sarah Palin or Michele Bachmann.

Well then the answer is staring us in the face. We're trying to find someone who fits all the criteria, but that person just doesn't exist.
The best fit for "smart and exciting conservative woman" is Susana Martinez.
If she says no, I don't see it being any other woman. MAYBE Ayotte. But she's not exactly the most exciting person in the world.
