Alabama is quite a bit nicer on average than Mississippi, due to it being farther away from Arkansas and Louisiana than Mississippi.

Huntsville area's supposed to be at least kinda not-shove-religion-down-your-throatey. I can find no such area in Mississippi.

Huntsville is pretty nice and moderate, but it's still conservative in many regards. Huntsville and Chattanooga are similar in how a majority acts liberal but votes conservative - latte liberals. Tuscaloosa's not a bad place, either.
