I think that the country is ready for it, but we need the right candidate.

And the pool of top-tier Jewish candidates is smaller than the pool of top-tier Catholic candidates.

It may take a few cycles just because Republicans are likely to win in 2016, and Jewish politicians tend to lean Democratic.
