Well, a pretty significant chance (~25%) that he will win still exists.

And it depends on the circumstances of the loss. If it's a significant defeat, running from slightly better than McCain's margin to a Reaganesque victory for Obama, Romney probably just retires. If it's a narrow defeat like Kerry experienced in 2004 (or especially like Gore experienced in 2000), the right-wing bullsh**tters will argue the election was fraudulent and Romney will get to keep a fairly significant amount of influence.

Hustle gold as a hedge against the policies of President Obama.

Serious answer: get back into private equity like he did before he entered public life.  And perhaps become a philanthropist.

Enjoy life on the beach in California with grandchildren

I can't see Romney making California his primary residence while he still has money.  But yeah, after losing this time, I think he'll head into semi-retirement unless he manages to win the PV and lose the EV.  If that's the case, he'll start running for 2016.

Mitt Romney a philanthropist? How about the Pope joining Al-Qaeda?

A bit of a hyperbolic reaction, don't you think?  Roll Eyes

Worse men than Mitt Romney (think the famous American industrialists like Andrew Carnegie) turned to philanthropy eventually.

Run some corporation or just fade into obscurity, probably the latter.
