Uh, for xkcd to abandon Romney it would've have to have ever supported him.

Exactly. I bet something like 90% of xkcd readers support gay marriage. Not exactly a Romney demographic.

I am strongly opposed to XCKD mainly because I can never remember the order of the letters XKCD in its title.

I don't really get it. Only #1 is controversial. There are much more damning quotes the artist could have used. In fairness I haven't seen the movie, so maybe I missed a joke.

Pretty weak for xkcd.

The comic is a commentary on the quizzes that pop up from time to time meshing candidate X with fascist twerp Y to see if folks can pick which one said something or the other. Saw one for Santorum I think a few weeks ago. They are not really effective tools for getting people onto your side, but they can rile up the already converted.

By making one as blatantly wtf? as this one, Randall (the author) is most likely pointing out how silly such things are. Candidates should stand on their individual merits instead of being meshed with characters they don't have much in common with given their individual contexts.

Tis a little silly that it might be offending people, or heck, even convincing anyone to be more for or anti-Romney. Long story short, if you find this particular comic offensive, you've totally missed the point.

Like many xkcds that are more "serious", the actual comic isn't very funny, but the alt text makes the joke.

I can't believe anyone is taking this as anything more than apolitical, absurdist humor about stupid quizzes on the Internet

That is not a political quiz; contrast it with this one, which is:

Yeah, it's a parody of those stupid "Is this Hitler or Rick Santorum" things which are utterly stupid.  It's not meant to be an attack on Romney, which is why the Romney quotes aren't controversial.
