another energy drink thread.  Tweed's insomnia problems have returned... for a while he chased it with escalating doses of trazodone, from 50mg in increments up to 200mg.  now that earns him a passout, but that's it!  I passed out by 915pm, but awoke before 3am and here I am, once again, torn into pieces...

but I ask!  I had this 16oz (diet) Red Bull here, which I am sipping daintily like Marilyn Monroe drinking a martini.  and it tastes good!  it is enormously expensive: I think I paid over $3 for this can.  which would, I've noted before, seem to open up the window for a cheaper imitator.  but somehow, only Red Bull tastes good, nobody else can replicate the taste... not Rockstar, nor Monster, nor Amp... what gives?

Why would you go to bed at 9:15 PM? If  you go to bed at a civilized hour, say 1:00 AM, you'll wake up around 9-11 in the AM ready to go and have lunch, meet the world etc.

(I myself hate to go to sleep before the first glimmer of dawn stirs against the curtain-shades, but that's just mean.  One of those people)

all that I will claim to realize is that the cycle has a momentum of its own.  can't sleep --> tired --> abuse stimulants to purchase extra functionality --> can't sleep.... and the loop is closed.  which is the 'cause' of the others is an academic discussion that I will leave to others.

I smoke pipe tobacco occasionally, that's about it. I picked up on the use of nicotine as stimulant from my reading on nootropics so I purchased nicotine patches as an experiment. I noticed that my motivation increased quite a bit and my cognitive ability was mildly enhanced: the dilemma was that if I used too much (I cut the patches), I'd be phased out because the buzz would be too strong.

Nicotine is great if you need to stay up all night for whatever reason. That's the only thing I really miss about cigarettes.

It's pretty popular on a nootropic/anti-aging site I lurked on for a while (longecity forum).

Other thoughts: the main dilemma with anything that helps you concentrate is that the substance can just as easily make you concentrate on something that is a complete waste of time.
