If it's "obvious" why is it worth discussing? I don't think either is obvious but I would say New York- there are more Republican areas there then Democratic areas in Idaho

Because of immigration of wealthy "nature lover"-types? I could see that.
Parts of Idaho are already changing.

But based on likely changes in the attitude of the present population I would say New York.
