OFFICE OF AVERROËS NIX
(TPP-NY)
NORTHEAST
SENATOR
Welcome. I am
Averroës Nix
. Thank you for stopping by.
I was elected to the Senate in October of 2012. Previously, I've served in the Northeast Assembly, first as a representative and later as its speaker. I've also served a term as Governor of the Northeast Region. If you're interested in my record, I've used this thread through each campaign and every term in office. Feel free to explore.
I maintain this office to inform my constituents of Senate activities, answer their questions, and respond to their concerns. If you want to let me know your thoughts on a recent piece of legislation, how I'm voting, whether I'm active enough, etc., this is the place to do it. (You can also send me a PM if you'd prefer to discuss anything in private.) Keep in mind that I am willing to sponsor legislation and amendments proposed by constituents.
Best,
Northeast Senator Averroës Nix

Nix for the Northeast Campaign Headquarters
453 State Street, Schenectady, NY[/center]
I'm pleased to announce that I will be campaigning to succeed Napoleon as Northeast Governor.
I'll articulate a more detailed platform over the next few weeks, but tonight I'd like to sketch out my basic goals.
1.
Energizing regional politics
: As the region's executive, I would view my primary responsibility as keeping regional government active. No one is better positioned than a governor to work toward revitalizing regional politics. I will do this through close cooperation with the Northeast Assembly and a detailed agenda of legislation to be passed (and an equally detailed agenda of antiquated and overcomplicated legislation to be repealed).
2.
Consensus building
: The Northeast is a region of liberals, libertarians, and moderates. As a pragmatic left-libertarian, I believe that I am uniquely positioned to bring these factions together to work toward common goals. While I'm not a "moderate hero" by any stretch, I am quite willing to work with ideologically diverse sets of people, and I know how to compromise gracefully.
3.
Fiscal reform
: In recent memory, the Northeast has lacked both a budget and sources of revenue. If elected, rectifying this worrying situation will by my first priority. While I would prefer to collect revenue through a tax on land, I am open to suggestions, especially from those who can remember a time when the Northeast Region collected revenue.
I'm excited for this campaign, and I hope that you are too.
Please use this thread to ask me any questions.

This campaign has some good intentions. No don't worry I'm not about to say "but" and then insert criticism here.
Anyway, this looks very promising. Now, I'm not a citizen of the Northeast so my opinion doesn't matter, but that last point seems like it would go the greatest in actually creating reform politics. Because frankly, over the past year or so the word "reform" has kind of just become a frakking buzz word for "vote for me". Not to put down people (like the Northeast
) who have actually put their money where there mouth is, but it might help if there is actual money there.
I applaud everybody over the past year that helped turn the region away from the one party state that seemed to put radicalism over responsible governance. And as of this moment this campaign at least has my spiritual endorsement.

Mecha, Napoleon, Scott, Oakvale, Jones, and 20RP12 - Thank you for your support and encouragement.
Also, for everyone following the campaign - I'll be taking a break from Atlasia and the rest of the Atlas Forum for the next week as I work on final projects and prepare for graduation. I'll return before swearing in next Thursday.

With over one month remaining until the election, I've been focusing on my duties as Northeast Speaker. Today, I encourage all Northeasterners to check out the recently updated
Northeast Vital Civic Information Thread
, which has been stickied on the Regional Governments sub-board. The Assembly is currently
discussing
potential improvements to this thread, and any citizen suggestions would be welcomed.
I'm also posting to remind everyone to vote in tomorrow's special election. My endorsements:
[X] Former Senator Alfred Jones for
Northeast Representative
AYE on the
Vacancy Mitigation Act
Please see my comments at both links for further explanation of these endorsements. The Vacancy Mitigation Act is particularly important to maintaining active participation in regional politics, and I urge any voters with objections to air them - as I would very much appreciate the chance to respond.
Thanks,
Northeast Speaker & Liberal Party Whip Averroës Nix

A couple of announcements:
1 - I've endorsed the recently-declared re-election campaigns of NE Representatives Simfan and AJ. Both legislators have been highly active contributors to discussion in the Northeast Assembly, and Representative Simfan deserves special credit for having introduced more bills than any other member this session.
1 - Former Representative Jerseyrules and I have made plans for a debate tentatively scheduled for next weekend. I encourage everyone to post questions in our
Call for Questions
thread. We are also seeking a moderator. This debate signals the beginning of the most active phase of the race. Expect more updates from this campaign!
