NOTICE TO ALL ATLASIANS:

At precisely 11:44 AM EST, the Senate of Atlasia assembled voted to expell from its membership, Mideast Regional Senator and Senate Dean MoPolitico. The vote was 9-0 in favor of expulsion on the grounds of innactivity exceeding 14 days.

Who's Dean of the Senate now, you?

I have been the longest serving Senator since Afleitch resigned to become President in February of 2010. Therefore I have been Dean either officially or unofficially since then. The rules state that the "official" Dean is the the longest serving Senator who is not also PPT. Therefore whenver I am elected PPT the title passes to next longest serving Senator. It was thus MoPolitico. Now it is TJ in Cleve. After him, it is you. https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=119311.msg3272714#msg3272714

I thought the Mideast had a special election, since that movement was centered there last fall after the "officepark" situation.

Yes, but the cause was headed by a lowly at-large senator from that region and didn't find any friends in the assembly.

I am honored by the mention, but I am afraid my activity levels are much like MOPolitico's.  Assuming Afleitch has already chosen to move to another region, perhaps Badger might be the better choice.

Median social score in incoming Senate: -5.04

"Hard right-wing" indeed!  Thanks for the laffs.

The median score is not representative of the entire ten member senate, which as I said has too many hard right senators.

The median score is the only one that matters, since it represents the deciding vote, but the average scores are similar and also negative.  Furthermore, there are two Senators with an econ score below -5 compared to one with an econ score above 5, and five with a social score below -5 compared to one with a social score above 5.  There are two with both an econ and a social score below -5 and none with both an econ and a social score above 5.

Your statement is ridiculous by any conceivable metric.

That said, I'd recommend the active, hard-working, and decidedly non-hard-right current GM and former Senator Shua, if he's up to it.

I like shua just fine and even wrote him in during the last election. But no, the median score does not in any way represent a deciding vote. This is coming from someone with two terms in the Senate and a clear understanding of how the body works. That you even think a political matrix that is barely useful for scoring American politics can translate to Atlasia in such a way is unnerving. The left wing Senators are mostly moderate, like Scott, Sbane, ilikeverin, and Nathan. The right wing senators are all fairly extreme unless you consider Andrew right wing, which I and he would object to.

Also, anyone who uses PM scores as a serious evaluation of someone's beliefs needs their head checked.

Ilikeverin and Nathan are "moderate?"  In what universe is that the case?  I doubt they would even self-describe as "moderates," unless they felt like being disingenuous.  Having had personal experience with both Scott and Sbane in the Northeast Assembly, I cannot recall them ever once supporting a single piece of "right" legislation, whereas I'm fairly sure TJ votes with the left in the Senate more than half the time, and Clarence and especially Yankee are hardly ideologues.  The only "moderates" in the Senate, in the sense of supporting a mixture of both left-wing and right-wing positions, are on the "right."  In fact, there is not a single member of the incoming Senate who favors moving Atlasia rightwards on every issue, compared to several who favor leftist positions on every issue save perhaps free trade.  Furthermore, by your own admission, since you exclude Andrew, the left outnumbers the right in the Senate.

Afleitch should obviously appoint himself as the obvious moderately conservative choice for a region such as the Mideast.

I won't appoint someone from the hard right. There are some residents I would refuse to consider because of their views.
