What do you mean "seemed to imply"? Here is the definition from Wiki:

"Sodomy (/ˈsɒdəmi/), refers to anal sex or other non-penile/vaginal copulation-like acts, especially between male persons or between a person and an animal.[1] "

So, sure, it is especially used that way, but it clearly is not limited to that.
