I think it has a chance of failing...

Most of my friends up at NC colleges are really campaigning hard against it.

So you inform everyone about the civil union component and it fails.

That, along with the potential legal issues resulting from the poorly worded language, caused me to vote nay, yesterday.

Thanks! Good choice! Smiley

According to a radio ad, Renee Elmer's primary opponent is claiming that she opposes amendment 1. Is that the case?

Yes.

Here are a few other Republicans who oppose it.

NC Yankee,

Who did you vote for in the GOP primary for Lt. Governor, if you don't mind?

Dale Folwell

That was the hardest one to decide.

Yeah, that will be an interesting race. I've some of Dan Forest's ads on Youtube and he looks like he's trying to appeal to the tea party Republicans.

I'm pretty excited about Linda Coleman on my side.

If McCrory becomes Governor, having Coleman as Lt. Governor would be a nice consolation prize for me! Smiley

The poll out today was very consistent with their last poll.

This pretty much sums it up:

"Lack of voter understanding about how far reaching the amendment is continues to be the biggest obstacle for those hoping to defeat it. 55% of voters in the state support some form of legal recognition for gay couples in the form of either marriage or civil unions to only 41% completely opposed. But at the same time 55% of voters plan to support the amendment that would prohibit any legal recognition for same sex couples while only 41% are opposed."

This is why it will eventually be repealed if it passes:

"There continues to be a massive generational gap with seniors (60/36) strongly in support of the amendment and young voters (33/59) strongly opposed."

So people are voting for something they oppose? Why?

Basically, because they don't understand what the amendment does.

"...only 40% of voters actually know that the amendment bans both gay marriage and civil unions. With those voters the amendment is failing by a 60-38 margin. "

In PPP's final poll, its up 55-39.

Voters who actually know what the amendment does break against it 61-37.

I think the media in this country exists to make sure the voters are not informed.

Too bad that Jerry Brown wasn't attorney general  there to name it "Eliminates Rights of couples to have domestic partnerships Constitutional Amendment".

Yeah. The problem here is that people are seeing this as a referendum on gay marriage, which it isn't.

North Caroliners are just dumb. I'm no fan of Arizona, but at least their voters realized they only wanted to ban gay marriage and not civil unions.

Well, NC has always been a very socially conservative state. Even the Democrats there are still less liberal on social issue than the national party.
