Nope.  While Studebaker was one of the few carriage makers to successfully transition to making horseless carriages, they were not the progenitors of the American automobile industry.

The citizens of Springfield, Massachusetts would differ with you as far as American automobiles are concerned, and the citizens of Mannheim, Germany would point out that all American claimants to being the birthplace of the automobile don't know what the heck they are talking about.
