(4) No
But isn't it mandatory?
Only if I were in the army, but I'm not. My brother, for example, has a typical Swiss Army assault rifle at home but he hasn't got any ammunition.
Because you're a student?
Because of health issues I had at the time the draft took place. I was not really keen on joining the army, so in hindsight I can say I was kind of lucky.

1.) Libertarian, will register Democratic.
2.) Tampa Bay Times, NPR, MSNBC, whatever pops up on Google News.
3.) Episcopalian; most Sundays.
4.) Nope.
Well besides the libertarian-Democrat thing, I get the majority of my news from a newspaper, probably a rarity today for the younger age group… I do attend church, but it's a liberal mainline Protestant church, so I guess that's in line with that.

Guess I ought to answer this since I started it.
1. Moderate Independent (neoliberal on economic issues; civil libertarian on social issues; realist on foreign policy issues).
2. TV: CNN and CNBC; Papers: Houston Chronicle, NY Times; Magazines: The Economist, Bloomberg Businessweek; Online: Slate, Politico, Texas Tribune
3. grew up attending Community of Christ (small, fairly progressive LDS denomination) and United Methodist services; identify as a generic Protestant but haven't been to church in quite some time
4. Never owned or handled a gun, though I have always wanted to try skeet shooting; I also tend to be relatively anti-gun control for the same reason I'm pro-choice and pro-same-sex marriage - at the end of the day it really isn't any of my business

Do any of these "stick out" in terms of your political views? (i.e. a conservative Republican who reads the NYT; a liberal Democrat who owns a gun and attends church every week).
1) A libertarian but hawkish Republican -- Republican, though I support Democrats more often than some independents I know
2) The Wall Street Journal, Wikipedia, the New York Times
3) Jewish, but very secular in my outlook on life; I only attend synagogue (or pray at all) at Passover
4) No, but only because of my age -- I intend to get one.
There're a lot of contradictions in me -- I'm a pro-choice, pro-gay marriage secular Jew who is nevertheless a Republican.

(1) I don't have any particular ideological affiliation that I'd identify as. I'm a member of the Irish Labour Party since they're the closest to my views out of the lot.
(2) Pretty much whatever shows up on Google News. I've been reading US economic blogs recently as a reaction to everything CARLHAYDEN posts.
(3) Atheist; oscillate between "live and let live" and being very anti-religion in general. Maybe they're not incompatible positions.
(4) I'm not a farmer or a drug dealer, so, no, I don't own a gun.
Nothing surprising, meh.

(1) I loosely identify as left-libertarian. I've never affiliated with a political party.
(2) BBC News, NPR, Twitter, the New York Times, Bloggingheads, RealClearPolitics, Capital Tonight, and an assortment of blogs (Matt Yglesias, Dave Weigel, Jonathan Bernstein, Marginal Revolution, Ezra Klein).
(3) Irreligious. Never attend services.
(4) Not recently.
Nothing here surprises me.

These are excellent questions! Before I begin I must add that I find most people who stereotype to be urban, hold master's degrees in film, work at used book shops and find everything "terribly interesting." This is why I never stereotype.
Quote
(1) What is your ideological affiliation? What is your partisan affiliation (if any)?
I have been a registered Libertarian since I was 18 years old. I was attracted to the party because I knew people who were Republicans and Democrats and did not want to be anything like them. I like to be a Libertarian because no one argues with me when I tell them what party I belong to, probably because they have no idea that Libertarian is a party.
Quote
(2) What TV, print and non-print media do you get your news from?
I like to find most of my info on cracked.com. I occasionally will read my local newspaper and I always watch my local news. There is a lovable old man on the Channel 4 news in Mason City who does "personal interest stories." These stories involve some old woman who has been collecting "Wizard of Oz" memorabilia for forty-years or some eight grade kid who likes whales. They are a blast!
Quote
(3) What is your religious affiliation and how often do you attend services?
I have belonged to a lot of churches. As a youth my father was a very religious man who took me to a fundamentalist Baptist church. He loved the church until he discovered it had only black people in it, then he declared it to be a bad church. He then went on to form his own church in our basement. Seeing how he was an insurance salesman and not a minister this church attracted very few members.
When I went off to college I decided to look into several different churches. I attended a church where the minister was once a dentist. He got into a car wreck on Halloween 1979 and had a life changing moment. He told the congregation that he went to Hell for thirteen minutes. I thought this story was total bull because it had way too many coincidences: so he gets into a car crash on HALLOWEEN and goes to HELL for THIRTEEN minutes. He was pretty boring outside of his tendency to lie about going to hell. Needless to say I left this church.
Eventually I made my way to the Roman Catholic faith. I was attracted to this faith because I attended a Catholic school when I was in elementary school and always thought mass was pretty cool. I liked how everyone knew all the words to the songs and chants. I also found the priests to be awesome old men who knew a lot and wore a pretty cool revere collars. I also liked
The Exorcist
as a boy and hoped to meet a priest who had battled with the Devil. Low and behold I met three and can tell you that they are bad ass guys.
Over time I have tried more "new wave" Christian churches. The Open Faith Chapel was one in Mason City which had a guy with a beard who wore jeans and a red tee shirt preach the gospel and play the acoustic guitar. His band could shred "The Moon" theme from the
Duck Tales
video game and knew some good dirty jokes so I joined the church. I soon found it to be an overly friendly place where the young crowd liked to join hands and pray for some random village in Uganda. Some may find this to be charming, I found it to be creepy. I left the church and am once again a practicing Catholic. I attend Wednesday mass, give $5 to the collection plate, sing in the choir and call it a day. Not exactly a "closer walk with thee" but I am content.
Quote
(4) Do you own a gun?
I do not own any "real" gun. I do not like them because they can smell bad and the recoil is viscous. I do own many airsoft guns and a wide away of Super Soakers. These guns can be just as viscous as any "real" gun.
Quote
Do any of these "stick out" in terms of your political views?
I do not know. As I mentioned I do not stereotype and that includes myself.

Yes. I'm non-white and not left-wing. Also, I'm non-religious and not lefty, since that also seems to be common.

1. libertarian-leaning moderate conservative, Republican.
2. PBS, NPR, Atlas forum, National Review, Reason.
- TV/radio here is against stereotype somewhat. I watch more MSNBC than Fox though I don't watch much of either. i do listen to right talk radio on occassion though.
3. Christian: Methodist/Presbyterian. attend services a couple times a month and bible studies weekly.
- often I identify more theologically with those who tend to be on the left (ex. emergent church, universalist/inclusivist soteriology)
4. No gun.
- the only unusual thing related to this is being a vegetarian.
