Someone makes a comment about how it's "sad" that the renamed-SED are doing poorly, I say that I'm not unhappy that the Stasi party is going down the drain, Al makes one of his holier-than-thou comments implying moral equivalence between the renamed-SED and the CDU because Merkel grew up in East Germany and Antonio some idiotic pseudo-sarcasm to the effect he doesn't believe the renamed-SED is the Stasi party, I provide an example of a recent event in which the renamed-SED went on record hysterically defending the Stasi.

But you derailed the thread by speaking about the SED party in the first place. Otherwise it would just have been 1 comment about Die Linke.

That's not what they did. And that's not what Al was commenting on. And Deadflag thinks you linked to the wrong election because in the one you linked to, the other ex-Stasi party too refused to elect the guy with (somewhat exaggerated, actually, though he was still an FF) anticommie credentials.

Back to the Dutch elections. Can somebody tell me what's the relationship between SP and PvdA nowadays because historically they haven't got so warm relations. Wasn't there even a full isolation policy towards SP from PvdA?

I'm pretty happy at the resurgence of the Socialist Party that we're seeing in the Netherlands. I have a friend there who supports the party.
For those of us who are more knowledgeable on Dutch politics - the chance of some left-wing coalition (SP, GreenLeft, etc) is out of the question, I'd imagine?

There is nothing Nazi about wanting to prevent immigration. Its a legitimate goal in a democracy to want to preserve your country as an etnically based nation state.

That sounds like a rationale for "ethnic cleansing" in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the 90s. Any relation to Ratko Mladic and Milosevic?

I am not sure I want to debate on that idiotic level. Ethnic cleansing and a stict immigration policy are obviously two very different things.

Strict immigration policy has nothing to do with " to preserve your country as an ethnically based nation state". The first one is borderline fascist statement. The latter one is the opinion about state of politics.

I think the racist people in the Netherlands who vote for the PVV missed the boat in the 17th century when they could have emigrated to South Africa and helped build the racially pure apartheid Boer state there.

The purpose of a strict immigration policy for many Europeans (and Koreans and Japanese etc.) is to preserve their countries as ethnically based nation states with a clear majority population. There is nothing fascist or racist about that goal. Its just that certain countries are based on having a shared culture, history, language etc.
I am not a big fan of Wilders, but calling him a Nazi, fascist etc. is simply wrong.

I wonder if the strong showing of the Socialist Party is due to the economy struggling as well as perhaps an anti-austerity vote as it seems parties on both the far right and far left are doing better in Europe while those closer to the centre are somewhat weakening. Traditionally when the economy is weak people often gravitate to the extremes, while more to the centre when strong. Also what is the chance of a right wing or left wing. For Right wing I am thinking of VVD + CDA + PVV and perhaps throw in the CU although I am not sure if you would consider them right wing. For left wing it would be SP+PvDA+GL+D66. Are either of those realistic or will it likely be a mixed coalition.

Believe it or not, immigrants tend to contribute quite a lot to that shared culture, history, language etc. in pretty much every country since the beginning of time.

I don't think it is about just preserving the ethnic purity, but rather most European countries are not immigrant based countries like Canada, US, and Australia so people don't mind some immigration but not if it alters the dominate culture. While it is true Muslims and minorities are far from being anywhere close to a majority in Netherlands, in many areas of the largest cities they are the majority (they aren't very many in the countryside as well as certain districts in most cities) thus some people falsely believe their culture is under siege and the PVV is able to play off that.

True a lot of the far right parties do say similiar things although I really doubt any of them actually could win an outright majority thus never being able to implement their policies. Generally when the economy is weak, racism and xenophobia increase. Never mind many groups they take extreme positions don't expect any government to implement them, they just want to move the government in that direction. In the case of Europe, most governments have cut immigration levels, but not eliminated them, although technically they can only cut non-EU immigration as EU citizens regardless of race or ethnicity have the right to live and work in any EU country.

Islamophobia pretty much completely mirrors antisemitism. Just look at how some wackos act like there's some big Muslim conspiracy to take over Europe -- it pretty much screams Learned Elders of Zion.
