I've read it, but I'm not a fan of it.  Too many people take it as a serious alt-history instead of the satire of the genre that it is.

Well, it it's a satire it's a very "dead pan" one. I never noticed anything to indicate that it wasn't meant seriously.

I must say though, that while I know Stirling doesn't like the Moslem world, getting rid of it that way did rather strike me as overkill.

Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four is a satire too. The term "satire" doesn't necessarily mean that it's supposed to be funny.
