Phil will love that.

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entries/gop-state-chair-romney-doesnt-think-he-can

Rob Gleason, the Pennsylvania Republican State Party chair, says that Mitt Romney isnt optimistic about winning the state in November, reports The Morning Call.

Gleason recalled telling Mitt Romney at a fundraiser that they would win Pennsylvania, to which Romney replied, Really?

I dont think anyone thinks we can carry Pennsylvania, I dont think even Romney thinks we can win Pennsylvania; theyre not counting on it, but theyll play here, Gleason said. Were not asleep at the switch. Weve been working on this for four years. This is the big one.

Pennsylvania is considered a swing state, but recent polling showed President Obama ahead there by eight points. Pennsylvania hasnt picked a Republican for president since 1988.

I just don't see how President-designate Romney is going to lose Pennsylvania after he carries California by four points, guys.

"Really?" doesn't necessarily sound like Romney was rejecting the possibility of a win.  He could be playing into the guy's whole "the state GOP is going to win this one" shtick by patronizing him.  The state chair just sounds a little too excitable to me.

I'm also sure Romney loves having his private conversation with this guy broadcast nationally.

Well then, maybe PA Republicans should pull their money out of this election.

He has a fair shot, but it's not like his pessimism is unwarranted.

"Really?" does not translate into "Romney doesn't think he can win Pennsylvania."

As usual, a very biased and partisan introduction.

If Romney thinks he's going to be the first Republican to win Pennsylvania since 1988, it would be a sign of poor judgment on his part.

If he can create 500,000 new jobs a month, he can win Pennsylvania.

True, but Romney will not be creating those 500,000 new jobs a month until after he becomes President in 2013.

Effective policing requires to know when backing down is in the best interest of public safety.  By all accounts, the culture of the Ferguson Police was ignorant of that fact, and instead treated Cartman of South Park as a role model for how to be a police officer.

Romney is more suited to Pennsylvania than Virginia.

I love our chairman for other political reasons and I don't speak ill of him though we don't always agree. He's a Mitt fan but I'm glad he pointed out another silly Mitt-ism.

By the way, even if you don't think you're going to win, why the hell would you respond that way to a swing state party chairman (who stay neutral/didn't hurt you in your main rival's home state despite being friends with said rival)? Roll Eyes

I would say Mitt isn't a good fit for PA in terms of a GOP Presidential candidate IMO. However, I wouldn't say polling ahead by 8 points isn't a good place for Obama to be ether, esp. considering in other Rustbelt states like WI, MI, and even OH he has led by more then just 8 on average at times. Also, keep in mind that only 9 months or so ago BHO was pretty disliked in PA, even in comparison to some traditionally Red states that voted for McCain in 2008. Although I'm not going to disagree with the assertion that the President has the advantage in PA for now.
