Billionaire Finds New Role in Effort to Defeat Obama

By JIM RUTENBERG and JEFF ZELENY
Published: May 25, 2012

When news broke last week that the billionaire investor Joe Ricketts had considered financing a $10 million advertising effort linking President Obama with the fiery race-based rhetoric of his former spiritual adviser, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., Mr. Ricketts quickly distanced himself from the proposal and Mitt Romney’s campaign denounced it.

But Mr. Ricketts is continuing to play a provocative role in the effort to defeat Mr. Obama.

He is involved in another effort slated for this summer, a documentary film based on a widely criticized book, “The Roots of Obama’s Rage” by Dinesh D’Souza, which asserts that Mr. Obama is carrying out the “anticolonial” agenda of his Kenyan father.

Is this four years ago? Why the hell would he think to pull some Jeremiah Wright stuff in this decade?

Complicated and obsolete. The anti-colonial struggle is over, and there is no conceivable return to colonialism. This should go over like a lead balloon filled with sulfur hexafluoride.

...the implication of the film being that colonialism is good?

Anyway, does it really matter at this point?  I still lost 2 pounds as a result of the 4 sloppy joes.

Well, it depends on the time period. 1870s-1900s colonialism is of course bad, whereas 1950s-1960s colonialism was a good thing in most cases. It all depends.

that Obama is not a real American, has an un-American, foreign agenda. (Also, that he has a "rage" that might conceivably "stem" from anywhere; a highly risible notion.)

Regarding the title of this thread, if someone is opposed to Obama is he automatically a racist?
If someone supports publicizing Obama's associations with questionable characters does that make one a racist?
Just want to know what is the criteria.

The Obama camp should respond with a campaign which ties Ricketts to the Chicago Cubs.

The implication being that anti-colonialists oppose more than just what most people would think of as colonialism.

Wasn't the whole point of the Wright/Ayers crap to paint Obama as a radical leftist and Scary Black Man? I'd assume since he's, y'know, been President for four years and hasn't yet overthrown democracy and created a radical socialist regime that the attacks will have lost whatever little impact they had in the first place, no?
