It's worth noting that this budget includes the taxes created to fund most of the programs enacted in the past few months, but not the spending for those programs.  I assume they are being delayed until some future date?

In the coming days I have some Amendments to introduce; for example, I intend to increase the funding given to the Department of Energy for research.  There is also some revenue stuff I wish to deal with, so stay tuned.

Hmmm. I'm not too sure about this budget. Personally, I'd like to see some changes made to the Aid to Low-Income Families area. I think we should really take a look at where we can start pulling money out from the budget, and implement more job training programs for those on welfare. It looks like just too much money is going into some of these programs. If we can get Atlasia back to work, assitance will go down and maybe we can really balance the budget in the next few years.

I'm not against helping the people, I am against abusing the system.

I agree.  Would the President be comfortable with this idea?

Um... respectfully, I'm hearing a lot of... statements, but what exactly do you want to take out and where do you want to move it to?

Its food stamps and housing assistance. I don't know what you can cut from that unless you want to cut people out of the programs but I think that would need a separate bill.

If we can get Atlasia back to work, assitance will go down and maybe we can really balance the budget in the next few years.

I agree but the overall economic uncertainty is not fully under our control, with what's going on over in Europe causing major disruptions.

I think Andrew was talking about investing some of the money spent on food stamps and welfare programs into programs that help bring people out of poverty so that the need for welfare services would be reduced.  I'm not sure what the specifics are for this, though.

I would recommend you refer to the previous Budget in the GM thread, I've increased housing and similar funding and also increased funding for skills training and education.

I'm open to seeing alternative paths if they're not sufficient.

IIRC we have a very robust social security net passed under the social security act. We can try and change eligibilities or payment amounts to save money.

Not exactly happy with the cuts to international affairs, but very happy with the raise in veteran's assistance. DoEA supports the budget.

As I said- I'm very happy with this budget particularly commitment to veterans...I was considering moving to take out the funding for broadcaster but that would get me no where and frankly the good far outweighs the bad here...I look forward to seeing BigDaddyPA's proposals

How were the health care numbers distributed across regions?
Those were the numbers from the first budget update I did, and were based mostly on population.
I'm not sure why the figures from the more recent budget update weren't used here.

I object to this one.  We know very little about the best ways to teach; slashing the research budget seems misguided to me.

I object to this one.  We know very little about the best ways to teach; slashing the research budget seems misguided to me.

This is for research on eduation and not research at educational institutions, right?

Yeah, I think other research is covered elsewhere.  What's "General Education" in this context, I wonder?

I think ILV has a point and I would like to know why Ben desires to cut spending on that. It barely puts a dent into the overall increase in Education spending, so I assume it is an intentional decision relating to that particular item, as opposed to it being a compensatory action for changes elsewhere in the amendment.

Frankly, it was just shifting stuff, not intentional.  I'll happily revise the Amendment if people do desire.
