Nay.

Wormyguy hates the brown man(and the poor man in general).

oh boy, looks like confusion about what's being debated really is a problem . . .
There is no confusion, most future veterans will come from poor & minority backgrounds. I am sure wormy perfectly knows this, while this went over your head.

Uh, the President presents a decent budget and you guys want to nuke his efforts by adding a heap of wasteful spending? I encourage the Senators representing me (and the rest of you Tongue ) to vote against these unnecessary amendments. I see Ben continues his  approach of offering no substantive reasons for anything he does while demanding that others explain their reasons for opposing. 5 infraction points for trolling to you Senator.

Ben's amendments result in a net spending increase of $42 billion dollars.

I would like to offer two amendments
Quote
Income Taxes
1M+              60%
This one needs no explanation
Quote
Gasoline Tax (20 cents/gallon)
33 billion is spent for highways, gas tax at 12c only brings in 20 billion, I don't think we should be subsidizing them.

As innappropriate in form as they are, Napoleon does have a point.

Perhapse I should extend my 24 hour requirement of bill sponsors to the sponsors of amendments to those bills as well. The problem is there is no tabling mechanism and I would have to use the "Frivolous, functionally impractical, etc" trash can to enforce it. It would also delay the consideration of amendments somewhat.

Which is a 50% increase to the current projected deficit notwithstanding the optimistic revenue projections. I haven't heard anyone explain why this extra spending is necessary or what it will be used on. What is so important that the original budget didn't include?

With all this talk of new spending, I'm surprised no one's interested in discussing the spending that's been cut.

64% of that increase in net spending is the result of the current amendment at vote, 49:19.

Yes, the amendment I oppose.

I'd like to see the changes from the last budget.

Also, Shua, that reminds me that I am going to need your help with the regional budget when you get a chance. Wink

Napoleon, there's no need for you to attack me in the way that you are.  It's also worth noting you aren't attacking the DoEA, which supported my Amendment, or any other Senator that has voted for them - only I am attacked.

I am working with Shua on some revenue Amendments, and if need be I accept Seatown's two Amendments as friendly.

It's worth noting that the DoEA and other Senators aren't proposing amendments without offering any explanations and then demanding explanations from others.

Napoleon, nobody has asked for an explanation.  I can certainly answer any questions you might have.

It's not really hypocrisy when I offer to answer the question; explanations should only be expected when actually asked.

Weird question- is there any way we could use this budget to merge departments of government and eliminate ones we don't need?  Obviously, the specifics would have to be worked out, but it would be great if we could use this opportunity to cut spending and bureaucracy at the same time.

Also, an amendment.

Quote
Income Taxes
 9.5K-35K     13%10%
 35K-80K      24%21%

 1M-2.5M     50%52%
 2.5M+        60%61%

Pretty self-explanatory; this amendment will make the tax code more progressive by cutting the Income tax rate on the two lowest income groups and raising them modestly on the highest two.

This will cost us a considerable amount of tax revenue (about $150 B by my quick calculations) since so many more people pay the lower brackets.

We already tax the wealthy too much in Atlasia considering the top bracket is already 60%. I will not support making it higher while the lower brackets are this light. 35K a year is not poor; we do not need the government to try and "help" people making 35K a year.

Just FYI, I've got a big revenue Amendment coming up soon.

In a time when unemployment is still very high, it is necessary that we keep taxes on the middle-class as low as possible.  I am willing to compromise on the other brackets, but taxes on the lowest bracket should absolutely be reduced.
