This should be interesting. The 50,000 Indian Wars, short bombings (Eagle Claw, for instance) and US-backed coups/filibusters are not counted.

In hindsight?  NOTA.  Since that wasn't an option in the poll, voted the first because it was the most justified outside of hindsight.

I voted Civil War (Union), WWII, the Gulf War (1991), the Bosnia and Kosovo conflicts, and the Afghan War (although I would have only sent U.S. forces into Afghanistan with the specific objective of eliminating bin Laden and al-Qaeda, not for the open ended conflict with the Taliban they're engaged in over there).

If I lived during the Revolutionary War, I'm not sure which side I would have supported--after all, a great many colonial Americans not only remained loyal to but actually fought for Britain.  Unlike slavery in the Civil War, there was no clear moral issue that gave one side superiority over the other (if anything, the British have the edge in this regard for their proclamation promising slaves freedom who ran away and joined them).  The patriots' bid for independence could (and still can) be viewed as either a treasonous rebellion or a legitimate struggle for freedom.

The Mexican War and the Iraq War are clearly the least morally defensible, with the Spanish-American perhaps not far behind.

The first four, with the addition of WWII (only after Pearl Harbor). The Quasi War was a version of what we later went to war with Britain over in 1812.

Why did you leave out the Barbary Wars?

Amusing to see the amount of votes for Libya. I didn't know we had that many Islamists on Atlas.

This. I could have sworn that Libya was the one war that both the left AND right opposed...

On the contrary, the left strongly supported the Libya intervention.

Except me, apparently. I didn't get the memo that we support oil wars + religious fundamentalist movements now.

I oppose the mass slaughter of innocent and mostly un-armed protestors with fighter planes, so I of course supported the intervention in Libya.

Don't really understand the leftists (or anyone) supporting American intervention in WWI though.

Except the Libyan rebels weren't even close to being Islamists in most cases.

What's your justification for the Mexican-American War?
