While I do not share his predilections, I applaud his fight for freedom.

Normally, I don't really care one way or the other, but the recent cry fest has soured me on him.  Maybe you can't feel like a real Christian unless you think you're being persecuted.

Remember that time I compared the mods infracting my posts to the persecution of Jesus and saying things like "Mods you can silence me on the forum, but you can not silence the Truth of God."

I don't know what is creepier:  finding out an opinion thread has made about you, or finding out BRTD created it.

I like jmfcst and I know it isn't intentionally offensive but I find his signature to be in bad taste...

Understood, I brought this up myself earlier today.  But our language is full of idioms referencing medals, e.g. "you deserve a Purple Heart for addressing that hostile crowd"

My sig wasn't meant to belittle the men who really earn those medals.  And I'll remove my sig for Memorial Day.

Yes- I remember you telling me about that...Hell's Half Acre they call it
I did serve in Vietnam with the Seabees- went first in 65 and I was there at the start of Dong Xoai- count my lucky stars every day to have had the Army boys with me...served mostly along the coastline with various naval construction battalions- spent some time in Quang Tri and later in Da Nang... second tour was on a civic action team and went inland to build schoolhouses and civic structures for many of the villages the VC ravaged...

Yes, precisely.  He is exactly like that organization we are no longer allowed to mention.

Stubborn as heck, rather closed minded, never seems to admit he's wrong, and needs to get over his mod obsession ASAP (and work with them better - they are not the enemy, they are trying to do their f'ing jobs in good faith!), but he can laugh at himself, is quite smart and knowledgeable about some subjects, which adds value, and most importantly does not to my knowledge personally attack other posters, even when he is so attacked (which is a HUGE plus point with me), and at bottom I think is a good person.  I bear him no animus, and never have. FF.

sorry for forgetting you were the one I talked to about it.  my memory of forum conversations is quite poor.

2 tours?!  wow.  thanks for serving.  What are your feelings about America's involvement in Vietnam, if you don't mind me asking?

...needs to get over his mod obsession ASAP (and work with them better - they are not the enemy, they are trying to do their f'ing jobs in good faith!),

You're joking, right?

No. To be blunt, both of you are just ludicrous on this issue in my view. My suggestion if you recall, was for you to "compromise with the outer limits of your self expression."  Remember?  Sure, maybe some of the mod calls were questionable (I have no idea really without seeing the context, etc.), but if you don't get so near the edge, the issue never comes up at all. Sure, maybe the mods all love me or something, but I have never got a death point, and I think the reason is that I try to avoid getting near the edge (and trust me, with at least one poster, I really, really wanted to and bad, but I just sucked it up), and figure out how to phrase things, that eviscerate another poster's opinion sometimes, in a way that is not offensive, and sometimes where they don't even realize that they are being put away. Tongue And oh, I don't put up shirtless pics of myself anymore to boot. Sad

Just a thought here. If I had reported any one of about 20 posts of yours involving me, you would most probably have received death points. But of course I didn't, and I made clear in responding to your salvos that I was not personally offended (by using humor, dissing you back in a friendly way, etc.), and presumably the mods if they see it and the context, say fine, no problem, those two guys have worked out how they relate to each other and aren't generating problems, etc.  Heck, saying that everyone in my class should be exterminated, including myself, is kind of "hateful" isn't it?   But  it is just you being you, in your own little unusual world, and I don't find it offensive, and so it goes.

Am I making any sense to you here opebo?
