As it seems to be the trend around here, I'm also willing to serve on the committee.  Personally, I feel it's the assembly role to choose its members, but I'm not aware of the process that was used last time.

That could be a starting point, I agree.

Does the region have any glaring problems that we can solve by throwing money at them?

I don't believe so. Wink We seem to be in pretty good financial shape.

We might need part of the surplus for the new capital, in case we ever get that amendment passed.

Very true; I just noticed that you reintroduced the amendment.

Where does the remaining 20% of the surplus go?  I only see 80% being allocated.

The remaining 20% would be saved.  Sorry, that should be expressed in the budget as well.  Fixing now.

Cool.  I was wondering if was going into our secret assembly booze fund...oh, uh, you didn't see that. Wink

So is there no disaster fund for the Region currently? From what I read it seems we're going to take it out of the surplus for now (which is fine with me for now)

There is no set disaster fund, correct. And I agree, the surplus seems healthy enough to use for these types of things, but it might be useful for us to start including a separate emergency disaster fund in the budget so funds can be tapped automatically in the event of a crisis such as this.
