Ursula von der Leyen becomes next Chancellor of Germany. Well, either her or Thomas de Maizière.
That is unless conservative anti-Merkel forces seize the opportunity and launch a coup to "take the party back".

If she scares the hell out of you, I can't imagine how awful she might be.
Well, she's basically a left-winger, that's why I might as well vote for real Greens then for a Green that calls herself CDU.

Besides, I can't detect much ideological difference between Merkel and von der Leyen. So, if von der Leyen is a Green, then Merkel is one too.
No you're right. Green is wrong, perhaps nanny-stateish is the better word. I find the person very disagreeable and I would dispute that she's similar to Merkel. Zensur, Frauenquote (quota for women). I would have said minimum wage, but Merkel has joined her on that. (Which is one thing I happen to support.)
