Apparently he's a sock of Sam Spade, or so the theory goes. Regardless, he's hilarious. FF.

Considering they post from a good 3,000 miles apart, that'd be a mean feat.

Why can't you guys just accept that he's not a sock of an already existing user?

another issue is he shows a knowledge of the community well beyond his "years".

I'm not sure how that's a deal-breaker.  I started lurking on this forum in the run-up to the 2006 midterms and read it regularly through 2007, but only registered in November 2007.  I assume there are plenty of other users who have been reading the forum for years before registering.

I went public with my theory about TheProfessor's identity on IRC last night, but I'd like to see whether anyone else arrives at it independently before divulging.

May I ask if you think the account is a sock, which the mods all deny? I have zero skills for some reason when it comes to figuring out stuff like this. Maybe I had a mini stroke or something that killed off that part of my brain.

Yes, I do believe that it's a sock.

Well how about angus (that boy knows how to write), except that the mods said the IP address was on the west coast. Who lives on the west coast?  Doesn't Washington have a rather colorful character up there?

Colorado, not the West Coast.  We don't want to get more specific than that, because that'd be an invasion of privacy, but he's posting from Colorado from a legitimate-looking IP.

How can you tell if an IP is legitimate-looking?

Because most of the ones that aren't trace to proxy services.
