an article comparing Romney to Al Smith yet? Think about it: both candidates of the party of the South, yet religiously and socially not a very good fit for it.

If I wrote a political collumn for Salon.com or some such place this'd be one of the first 'lazy' articles I'd write. Easy parallels to be drawn without having to do too much work, and with a nice vision of doom for the Romney campaign to top things off.

It wouldn't really be a lazy article.  You'd have to spend a lot of effort into explaining who Al Smith was for most people to be able to understand the comparison you would be trying to make.
