Honestly guys, inevitable GOP landslide aside, it's been great having President Lieberman for the past eight years.  I'm really going to be sad to see him go.  I feel that America is safer, better, freer, and happier than we were 8 years ago, he got our economy roaring again, he gave us quite a few "droopy dog" jokes, his portrayal by Ian McDiarmid on SNL was fantastic (and hilariously ironic), the national debt is almost paid off, and he sure as Hell has been kind to Republican Congressional candidates.  Hes had perhaps one of the best cabinets of all time, and it just won't be the same to turn on Hannity and Colmes and not see a picture of a middle-aged white guy in the background.  I can't believe that this time next Tuesday we'll have a completely different man in the Oval Office.

OOC: this is for my TL.  Please, guys, answer as if you like him, but if you're actually a democratic socialist (especially JulioMadrid) please comment about him screwing over the poor or picking crappy choices for Supreme Court.  I'm going to put a picture of the first/best responses into my TL at the end of Lieberman's Presidency, and most of Atlasia (about 75-85%) should support him.  If you can think of something nice to say about him, ex. His domestic policy, or if you're über-conservative, talk about how "Thank God he had a massively GOP congress to keep him in check" etc.  (ITTL, NO Iraq, NO War on Terror, NO 9/11, NO PATRIOT ACT.  Even if you're a Paul Wellstone liberal, there's little to be mad at him about.)

I'm a Republican, so am instinctively a little suspicious of any Democrat, but I can see that President Lieberman has been a decent, principled and fair man in office, quite unlike his predecessor.

I agree completely.  I voted for him in 2004 (though I voted for Dole in 2000)

I like his diplomacy, and while he presented a peace-thru-strength foreign policy, he made sure our allies backed him up.

OOC: I doubt Lieberman would have a fiscally responsible presidency, given that it'd be quite hard to keep Clinton's surpluses going, and he'd probably have even less fiscally conservative instincts than the already atrocious George W. Bush.

But then again, you seem to be hinting at no 9/11, so who knows how it might've gone. Shame too. From my end, Lieberman would be entertaining as a war president, and I can't imagine what other reason he'd be there for. What's the good of writing a Joe Lieberman TL if he's not the one fighting the war on terror?

By 2006, he'd completely worn out his welcome with any of the American Left. I mean really, he'd probably have been better off joining with the Republicans or declaring himself independent. I mean for God's sake, the man was center-right. Not to the extent the Republicans prefer, but definitely too far from the left to count as a Democrat. Have to wonder why someone like him was elected from Connecticut.
