Don't have a lawn in Philly, but back in Jersey we employ Exhibit J. We tried ourselves for a while but the yard is just way too big. I am interested in trying out Exhibit H though. And F is terrifying.

For many years, Exhibit D did the trick (and that would have been my answer when you made this poll), but we sold that in a garage sale when we moved Back East.  When I moved here, the guy across the street, a physician with very little free time but lots of money, had just bought himself a new fancy Exhibit B, so he gave us his Exhibit C for free.  That's what we use now.  Over the course of a season, it goes through about two gallons of fuel.  I fill the little tank after about every third use, so it's not so bad.

I voted for C.

This has prompted laughs from friends (with bigger houses) and even a poster or two from the Forum: my family owns an electric mower so I plug it in to an outlet in the house and have the cord run under the door to the mower. This is hilarious to some but I don't really get the big deal. I live in a row house in a city. I don't have a huge lawn so most of those options aren't feasible but it's big enough that I can't weed-whack the whole thing. I guess a gas mower with the bag attached is more common but whatever.

Exhibit B and exhibit I.

That would be "mowing" and "trimming" or "weed whipping".  We have a John Deere "riding lawnmower" as we call them.

Even so it takes a couple hours to mow and, if wet, has to be done at least 2-3x/month from May-October.

Also... no bag for the clippings.  That's free fertilizer!

It's Lon More 'round here I think, like a guys name.  Sort of like "Bob Wire."

My Exhibit C came with a bag attachment as well.  What a hassle.  I used it a few times but it has to be frequently emptied, so now I just skip it.  I do find it useful in the fall as it saves me from having to rake leaves from the lawn.

My lawn is relatively small and for many years I used a reel mower as in exhibit G. However, my schedule became less reliable, and if the grass gets long a reel mower is difficult to use. In addition it's hard to find people who will sharpen its blades.

So about a dozen years ago I switched to a corded electric as in exhibit D. It gets more torque than the battery version which helps at those times I have to deal with long wet spring grass. I don't need self propulsion since my yard is flat.

That is exactly the model we had for the four years we lived in CF.  Had a big garage sale when we moved and I sold it to a hard-bargaining Mexican woman for twenty-five dollars.

How was the reel mower?  I've looked into those but never bought one.  I'd have considered buying one when we moved here if the guy across the street hadn't given me the Toro two-stroke that I have now.  My main concerns with the reel mower were that I'd have to mow more often as it might not handle the tall (wet) grass and that I'd have to sharpen the blade from time to time.

I can see Bushie buying all the necessary tools for Exhibit H, and then never actually doing it.

Your concerns could be well-founded. I have a neighbor who uses a reel mower without any issue. OTOH, I found both your concerns to be issues, but they weren't much of a problem when I had a schedule that could allow me to mow more than once a week in May or June when the grass was growing fast. Once my schedule was less flexible for the yard I needed a machine with more oomph.

I use a gas-powered push mower, but we do have a tractor with a mower attached to it, and I'd like to try that sometime.

I write a check once a month to the guy who cuts it......unlike Torie, I don't employ browns, mostly because no browns have offered.

And there aren't too many in the North Hills yet who can offer, George. Wink

My answer: My beloved rural-born wife loves our tractor, identical to Exhibit B, and takes care of it while I'm at work or recovering from same.

Firstly, God Bless Mrs. Badger.....handling the minions along with her BIG bratty kid, and the yard along with the rest of life....amazing woman.

And yes, good Badg, the North Hills is not very welcoming to browns.  I remember this past winter I'm out warming cars up and the LAW was cruising through the neighborhood because they had a report of two browns in a pickup driving slowly through my plan.  When the officer inquired if I'd seen them, I said, yes, every day.  An old man drives his wife to one of the houses here and she apparently cares for an elderly lady there.  He was suprised they weren't up to anything nefarious, as were the busybodies that called the cops, apparently.  But he was dead set on getting to the bottom of the pickup with the browns in it.  Welcoming, eh?  Smiley

Torie, treats his brown servants in a very saccharine manner. Quite laudable.

I don't mow lawns, but when I have, it's been C. I remember my grandma having G when I was young, but I never used it to mow a whole lawn.
