He's definitely spamming, and the fact that those threads haven't been closed, deleted or merged by now is a major indictment of the moderation structure of this forum.

I don't support banning him for it or anything that severe, but it is kind of amazing he's continued to have the amount of free reign he has, given that he does nothing but troll the board.

To me it is neither trolling nor spamming as long as a thread is tied to a real news story, of relatively recent vintage. Whether Winfield actually usually hews to that, or just puts up his own opinions as a thread, and then digs up old stories (or sometimes no stories), I am not sure. Truth be told, I typically don't read his threads, because yes, the content is often rather thin. But that makes him no different than a lot of posters. Just because you don't like someone's opinion, and/or it is presented in a rather juvenile way, does not make it trolling to me. Trolling remains a problematical word in my mind. Accusing one of it should be done sparingly. JMO.

He started 5 threads in the last ~72 hours or so, which I merged down to 3.  I've also asked him to be more judicious about starting new threads in the future.  I don't think it's that big a deal.  If he keeps starting a lot of new threads, then we'll deal with that when it arises.

In terms of the actual content of his posts.....look, I understand that many of you get annoyed by hackery.  But I don't police hackery.  If I wanted to do that, it would be a full time job.  Someone like poundingtherock, who insults everyone who disagrees with him, that's the kind of thing I would have cracked down on if I'd been a mod when he was most active.  But Winfield doesn't do that.  If you have someone who's being hackish, and you don't think they contribute anything, but they otherwise leave you alone, then just put them on ignore and don't read their threads.

I understand other mods might have a different style, and if the other 2012 mods want to police his posting more assertively, I won't object, but if he refrains from going overboard on the new thread creation in the future, then I'm not inclined to do anything more on this myself.

Hinduism is interesting. In some contexts, it actually takes on a monotheistic flavor, so asking why it has "so many gods" is a bit misleading. See C.J.
