Yes, the Danes can at least walk out with their heads held high. Unlike some other teams...

Happy with the end result, still say it was a poor German performance, though.

Yeah, I keep thinking none of these German performances are that great, but on the other hand they have beaten three teams that are either very strong on paper (Holland) or have been among the best performers in the tournament (Portugal, Denmark).

That's the old German way. Smuggle your way through somehow without playing very well. Think we got too used to 2010 style German football. Smiley

There's also the fact that Ireland have played Italy on 18 June before.

It is, unfortunately, nearly impossible to see how we could produce anything similar again tonight.

An interesting coincidence:
Yesterday, a Spanish referee greatly helped the German team by not giving a deserved penalty which if converted would have left Germany a goal down with 15 minutes to go.
Today, the decisive Spanish match is being refereed by a German referee...

Prophetic post, Mantis!

That ought to have been an obvious penalty just now.

As of right now, Italy are on top of the group, right?

I think it's time to admit that this game won't end 2-2.

There is still a chance of a 1-1. Which would also eliminate Italy (under the current score) Wink
Incidentally, I don't the Croatians are still playing defense. Even if they concede a goal, they could still advance if they score just once.

The referee has been a disaster for the Ireland-Italy game. Fall down and you receive a free kick, every time. Not to mention the wall antics.

So if Spain had not been awarded this off-side goal, they would have finished second and if they had reached the semifinal, they would have likely faced Germany. Again, "interesting" decision by the referee...

Ah, I was just wondering "Balotelli was offside? I've really seen it from just one angle, so it's possible, but it's different to imagine how." But he meant Spain. That "passive offside" stuff contains certain gray areas that won't ever go away, and this was slap bang in the middle of it really. (It was also on the very borders of handgame by Iniesta. Not to mention the clear-as-day penalty and a mild-but-constant pro-Spanish bias in the refereeing throughout. But that's what you get with the DFB's best-rated refs, to a man.)
