I'm curious as to what the consensus here on this is.

Obviously everything can be taken too far (I can understand why some farmers should be alllowed to own guns) but gun control is far better than the alternative.

Mixed-to-oppose (D).

The burden of proof for enacting additional gun control laws should be on those who are advocating them, and to explain exactly why current laws are insufficient.  Until they can persuade me, my default position is to oppose them.

Oppose (O/I), because of that whole "freedom" thing and whatnot (the "liberty" thing, and that "Constitution" deal).

I may be a red now, but I still oppose gun control.  The state should not have a monopoly on firepower.

The premise of this thread is what is wrong with the gun control debate at large. It's not a yes/no proposition, and debating it from that perspective is irresponsible and stupid. People who want no gun control laws are total idiots, so are those who want them all banned with no exceptions.

I realize it makes me sound like a Moderate Hero in saying this, but there are simple and responsible common sense steps that can be taken that take no one's right to own a gun away but are fair and allow responsible gun ownership. Only people who are not debating the issue in good faith would oppose things like clip size restrictions, restrictions on explosives, solving loopholes, a simple registry, or laser inscriptions on ammunition and firearms to help in police investigations, among other simple things. None of that takes someone's gun away unless they shouldn't own one in the first place.

Overall? Mixed. There are good gun "control" laws and bad ones. The debate over gun laws in this country are completely stupid and the issue itself is one example of the failures of our political system. We have two parties and one policy as far as guns go.

I believe I've said before that I support mandatory gun ownership.
I have no idea where that falls on the poll, so I voted Mixed (I/O).

Gun ownership should be heavily regulated. Definitely should be banned within 50 miles of a center of major cities.

Generally oppose (R). That doesn't necessarily mean I'll oppose every conceivable gun law but I do think people ought to be able to carry guns for self-defense, have guns in their homes, and have guns for recreation.
