Yeah, he should!

Totally couldn't have been tied to his brother or anything.

Jeb making his first move for the 2016 election. He clearly doesn't think he should've run this year, because he was bombarded by people asking him to run. He's hoping the Bush legacy wll be toned down after 8 years of Obama.

I don't think he's necessarily saying he would be better a better candidate than Romney (though he would be by far). He's saying that it would have made the most sense for him. The "window" is almost closed.

What else is he going to say if he's angling for 2016?

He also tacitly admitted that he's too moderate for the base. Hence "Things have changed since 2006, or when I last ran in 2002." I like Jeb but not the guy I'd (hypothetically) vote for in an open 2016 primary.

If Obama wins this time and the Democrats have control of both houses of Congress in 2016, I think the GOP might be willing to tone things down in 2016.  Or they might not.  It's too soon to say if the Tea Party is a temporary blip or a sea change.  And if Romney wins this time, Jeb would only be 67 in 2020, so if he stays relevant as either Veep or a Secretary, a run in 2020 is not out of the question.

Should Romney somehow lose, Bush is someone I could see myself supporting in 2016, certainly.

Jeb Bush is now too moderate? That's totally nuts. Ronald Reagan would be screwed today.

Yes, things have changed since Jeb left office in 2006, and he could no longer win the GOP presidential nomination.  Only true conservatives who are loved by the base have a chance in the party now, like......er......Mitt Romney.

Bush has always been good on fiscal issues from a base perspective. (Just read his CATO reports as governor) But like Romney he'd need to court them and take heed of their opinions. He'd be doomed in a GE because of his last name.

That said, I doubt Bush is running for office again. He had 3 opportunities to run for Senate (2006, 2010, 2012) and declined each of them, plus this latest presidential race. An open GOP 2016 cycle will see the Boomers hand over to the Xers.

How about a Jeb Bush vs. Hillary Clinton matchup in 2016?  Bush vs. Clinton, part 2.....24 years after the two families first clashed.

It seems that Jeb has ruled out being VP, so he is def preparing for 2016.

However, I think Romney can win against Obama, so that leaves Jeb with nothing to do, perhaps he would take a cabinet position.

He can still run for Senate if one of the spots opens up in the future.

If Chris Christie's on the ticket you always pick him over Jeb if you're judging on the abilty to actually win.

Fun fact: the last winning GOP ticket without a Bush on it was Nixon/Agnew in 1972. The last winning GOP ticket without a Bush or a Nixon was Herbert Hoover in 1928.

So Americans voted for a Bush at least 5 times, and voted for Nixon 5 out of 5 times (Cook County was rigged).

What makes you think Americans won't vote for a Bush the 6th time?

Clearly the Republican nomination race was not wacky and ridiculous enough.

Thus I reckon that in 2016 the Republicans will nominate a ticket of Bush - A hologram of George Romney with a platform that they had both been brainwashed into supporting the Iraq war and on tax cuts for corporations that engage in cognitive alteration research. But will eventually run into controversy when it is discovered that George Romney's Hologram was manufactured in Mexico excluding him from being a natural born citizen.
