I had rather a lot more rules in the 2010 tipping competition...


...but it made tallying the results a bastard of a job. Simple is good.

Here's the full set of scoring rules for 2010:

Tip scoring:
Tip win correct 5 points.
Tip win, match drawn 2 points.
Tip win, opponents win 0 points.
Tip draw correctly 6 points.
Tip draw incorrectly and the winning margin is 1 goal, 1 point.
Tip draw with a bigger winning margin -1 point.

Scores scoring:
Margin correct 2 points.
Goals correct team 1, team 2, 1 point each.
Both correct bonus 1 point.
Both incorrect -1 point.

All games in a day correct 5 bonus points.
All games in a group correct 10 bonus points.
Tip Cup winner correct 1 point per day before the match you make your prediction.
Cost to change cup winner prediction -2 points.

Too much, but for the world cup a bit more complexity than this may be appropriate...it'll be interesting to see what Lewis has in store for us.

Sounds reasonable, and I'll put in a tip for Germany to win the title.

I'd also suggest a -2 or -3 point penalty for changing winner prediction, but allow it to happen.
