Honestly this girl sounds awful and you sound miserable. Not breaking up with her as soon as possible is a mistake.

Break up with her, but do it in a classy way. Talk to her in person; a text message or even a letter is not sufficient.

I'm gonna wait til my girlfriend goes on vacation to Costa Rica. In that time, I'm going to hang out with Sarah a lot and try to gauge if she wants to give a relationship a shot. If she does, I'll gently put my girlfriend down. The only problem is, my girlfriend is severely depressed and may become incredibly suicidal if I dump her.

I've already tried faking it. It doesn't work.  The app is too smart for that.  I can't drive 3 mph, plus I would clog traffic.

Oh, and my mouth is watering for some IHOP!!

There's a friend of someone I know who would literally threaten to kill herself every time her ex-boyfriend broke up with her.  Eventually he did break up with her, and she never killed herself.  So keep in mind that even if your girlfriend acts melodramatic all the time doesn't actually mean something bad would happen because it almost never does.

Look.  If she's putting that type of pressure on you, then it's definitely not a relationship worth staying in and even if something bad did happen, it still wouldn't be worth sacrificing your life and your happiness over just because somebody else couldn't control their emotions.

Ok, first of all, from everything you've said in this thread, I'm going to call you out on one thing that is complete bulls**t on your part.

My girlfriend will be leaving to go on vacation in Costa Rica (without much internet or phone access) for a whole week, starting on June 21st.

So in that time, I plan to spend a lot of time with Sarah and see what develops from that.

This is crap. Total crap. Decide whether or not you want to dump your current girlfriend FIRST. Your relationship with her should not be contingent upon whether or not your new interest is open to a relationship.

You don't HAVE to be in a relationship. If your current relationship makes you miserable, end it - keeping it going for the sake of keeping it going isn't fair to you or her. It sounds like you want to end it, so just man up and do so. If you're worried about her hurting herself over it giver her parents a call and share your concerns before you do it so they can be on the look out. Honestly doing that would show more responsibility than people would expect from a fifteen year old.

Once you've sorted out your s**t should you can try to get together with your friend. If that doesn't work out you'll be happier being single than miserable with someone you don't want to be with anymore.

My advice is always this- your partner (girlfriend, wife, etc....) should BE your best friend...there were broads all my life who were beautiful, sexy, fun but I wouldn't want to rip one loose in front of them because they'd think I was a pig...
Now that I think about it- that is the advice I have. You're probably too young to be thinking of who will be your life partner but here is a good test- if you can't crack off a fart in front of her, she's not the one

^This is the right advice.

I don't know, in their cases they may have to work in their 20s, which would ruin them.  I was lucky - I didn't have to work at all till about age 27 or 28, and then didn't have to 'really' work much (other than silly adventurous kind of jobs) till I was in my late 30s.

This (and the rest of Dibble's advice) is what you need to hear. Relationships don't work that way!

If you're constantly hoping something will work out with someone else, you don't belong with the girl you've got.

Perhaps just having friends is more important than a GF... just a thought.
