the man has been governor of iowa forever (with a small break).  he seems well loved in the state.

at the very least he would be a 'safe' pick for romney.

Branstad would be a good pick, though I doubt Romney picks a Governor.

Also I'm sure I read somewhere that he isn't regarded as "conservative enough".

Branstad has never been shy about raising indirect taxes (i.e. fees) throughout his long tenure and even created a couple of state corporations in the '80s. Fiscal hawk, by Midwestern standards, he is not. Dunno about abortion. That said he's not getting picked for anything except maybe SecAg if he wants it.

I don't know, but still he have a poor relations with Tea Party and conservative base. In fact, Iowa Tea Party refused to endorse him last time.

He may help Romney in Iowa, but may overall hurt him with the base.
