Paterno wasn't an enabler, the trustees who were in power at the time were. Paterno tried to confront the issue while the trustees wanted to cover it up.

Even if what you say were true, Paterno was still an enabler who did the bare minimum to avoid criminal liability. And when dealing with child rape, doing the bare minimum is disgusting.
