romney will play it safe.  these are the two safest picks available.  maybe richard burr could be a wildcard.  but i still think it will be either thune or pawlenty.

How is Pawlenty one of the safest picks? His "Obamneycare" remarks during the debates make him an awful choice.

You mean like how Bush's calling Reagan's plans "voodoo economics" made him an awful choice?

I would not be surprised if he chose Thune over Portman.  Thune is a little better known in front of the media and has better enthusiasm amongst the evangelical voters.  If Portman does not improve Ohio in polls, then it will likely be Thune who does not have the Bush baggage.

I do not believe that Pawlenty was ever actually being given serious consideration.  He is more along the lines of a surrogate, but certainly not the Vice Presidential nominee.

I do have a question for those believing Thune will get the nod, and let me be clear, Thune is certainly viable in many respects.  But in the most important aspect, is Thune better than Portman as to being prepared to take over as President should that necessity arise?

Well Poppy Bush was a pretty awful choice even if he did not make the "voodoo economics" comment.

It's impossible to know what camp Romney is thinking about a running mate at this time. Even if you had asked if the VP pick were Thune, Pawlenty or Portman I would still say false. Even if Romney has a pick in mind and made his thought public I bet it would change by August. Many of the GOP VP picks have come out of nowhere in recent memory.

check the news, Rubio is not being vetted, and he knows he's not going to be picked, so he's not giving up his "questionable" financial statements.  romney said what he said to appease the tea partiers, rubio is not giving the romnay campaign anything about his past.

thune is just more popular and has more support from evangelicals.  he would be similar to GW bush in governing if that is what those republicans want in terms of vision.  Portman wouldn't have much vision or has not discussed it so far.

Or Pawlenty but not Thune.  Thune's a piece of plywood.

Of those, my pick would be Ryan by a wide margin.

False: Rubio, Haley, Paul, or DeMint. Mitt knows he has to pick a tea party aligned running mate. If he doesn't, we'll write Paul or Santorum in.

After today, there is no way Romney can pick Pawlenty.

Which means he probably will.
