Well, in such case Moulton will be a spoiler. Spoiler beneficial to Tisei probably..

Tisei raised $568,000 last quarter, bringing his total haul up to $1.2M.

He doesn't consider himself a politician by any means, but Beverly resident Daniel Fishman is nearing the minimum signature requirement in preparation to toss his hat in the ring for the Massachusetts 6th Congressional District.
The 44-year-old Libertarian says he has about 2,000 raw signatures with the August 1 deadline drawing near, and he is confident that he will be able to reach his goal of 3,200 raw signatures. He needs 2,000 certified signatures to get on the ballot.
Hmph.

Competitive House elections in Massachusetts are so rare that this is actually pretty exciting. I'm not too familiar with the North Shore and don't follow news east of Worcester very much, so I honestly have to thank you, krazen, for keeping us abreast on this fiasco.

Despite Tierney's ethical, personal and political failings, this seat is listed as number 41 of the top 50 seats likely to change hands:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/election_2012/battle_for_congress.html
And Cook has it listed as Lean Democratic
http://cookpolitical.com/charts/house/competitive_2012-07-12_13-48-57.php
Much as I'd like MA to have a Republican in the House and Senate, I would be surprised if Tisei pulled out a win. After all this is MA!

At the end of the day, this is a D+7. This would be a slam dunk for Republicans if this was a D+0, and one of their top prospects in the country if it were a mere D+3.
Still, this is a
really
ugly scandal. I believe Tierney will lose so long as Tisei keeps raking in the cash, though it's still pretty much a coin flip in my eyes.

Democratic lawmakers said Tierney has a small, single-digit lead over Tisei in internal polls, although Tierney’s campaign has not released any such data. Tierney recently doled out $350,000 for TV ads in the run-up to Election Day.
Is this wholly in the Boston media market or is there another niche media market up there that is cheaper?

Tierney's district would probably be 100% Boston media market. It's only about 15 or 20 miles north of the city.

Tierney needs to be running the exact same race against Tisei that John Kerry ran against Bill Weld in 1996. Continue to pound home that a vote for Tisei is a vote to give the right wing leadership in Congress like John Boehner, Eric Cantor, and Paul Ryan even more power.

(1) John Kerry has stronger net positives than Tierney. There was no scandal even approaching this level.
(2) This district is more Republican than Massachusetts on the whole, meaning the bar for Tisei is much lower to cross than Weld's or even Brown's.
You should look at the number of Democrats in this thread would would vote for Tisei over Tierney knowing it'll probably be a quick 2-and-out career for Tisei. It's a pretty non-offensive way to clean the House of a piece of human garbage.

I'd much rather have a guy who had investments in something that's legal in many countries and that the vast majority of the population aren't bothered by than a guy who would vote for John Boehner for Speaker. Would people be demonizing Tierney if he had invested in InTrade?

Tierney hasn't even been charged with anything, it's all speculation about if he did anything wrong, so it may or may not make a huge difference. Partisanship counts for a lot, it will be decided on how much Tierney and Democrats decide to make the race about the House leadership.

Pause for a moment and consider...
...well...
...that's not really the greatest re-election slogan in the world, now, is it?
'Re-elect me: I haven't even been charged with anything!'
'Vote for me: it's all just speculation anyway!'
Of course it worked for Eric Illsley, but this district isn't as safe as his seat was...

There are two kinds of people voting for Tierney at this point: (1) Hyper-partisans like BRTD who cannot comprehend voting for a Republican in any circumstance and otherwise take pleasure in the GOP's failure. (2) People like "DrScholl," the blissfully unaware-by-choice 35% that likely would have supported Sen. Bob Torricelli up until his withdrawal speech.
The only difference: In 2022, the DrScholls of this world will be talking about what a good outcome Tierney's loss turned out to be. In 2022, the BRTDs of the world will be shaving parrots or whatever the hell his grungy Christian hyper-hipster groupthink mandates.

Tierney himself didnt even do anything wrong unlike Vern Buchanan and Michael Grimm, despite both of them being in districts less Republican than this is Democratic and most people havent even moved those races to tossup yet.

Actually I am happy in hindsight that guy from New Orleans lost to that Vietnamese guy and was even kind of happy at the time it happened.
