And the draw begins with a ~15-20 seconds (own estimate) "minute of silence" for Nelson Mandela.

Fun personal fact, I actually spent a week at the resort where the draw is currently being held like 10 years ago. It was a nice place, good food.

45 minutes of stupid show before they start the draw? If I recollect right, that's harmless compared to what Germany did...

Nice of the Brazilians to invite Alcides Ghiggia of all people. This is almost like the English inviting Maradona.

And what Roy Hodgson and the mayor of Manaus wanted to avoid, England playing there.

Against Italy. And I don't really suppose England will make it out of a group with Italy and Uruguay.

German group is pretty tough as well.

I'm feeling good about Roja's group. Only real surprise is if Chile can knock out the Dutch for 2nd.

Brazil-Croatia will be a curbstomp of an opening match.

Looking at Manaus' climate in June (and in all other months for that matter), at least the English have a ready made excuse Wink

Alright.

A
1 Brazil
2 Croatia
3 Mexico
4 Cameroun

B
1 Spain
2 Netherlands
3 Chile
4 Australia

C
1 Cote d'Ivoire
2 Japan
3 Greece
4 Colombia

D
1 Uruguay
2 Italy
3 England
4 Costa Rica

E
1 Ecuador
2 France
3 Switzerland
4 Honduras

F
1 Argentina
2 Bosnia
3 Nigeria
4 Iran

G
1 Germany
2 Portugal
3 Ghana
4 USA

H
1 Russia
2 South Korea
3 Belgium
4 Algeria

Brazil > Netherlands
Cote d'Ivoire < Italy ( :,( )
Ecuador - Bosnia whatever
Germany > South Korea
Spain > Croatia
Uruguay > Japan
Argentina > France
Russia < Portugal

Brazil > Italy
whatever < Germany
Spain > Uruguay
Argentina < Portugal

Brazil > Germany
Uruguay > Portugal

Germany > Portugal
Brazil < Uruguay

Because we need to have some history repeating vibe, so Argentina lose quarterfinals, Germany and Portugal play a third place match, and Uruguay are the only country in the world that can win World Cups held in Brazil. Then Alcides Ghiggia dies three days after the final.

This reminds me. I won the 2010 tipping competition and the duty to run the 2014 tipping competition. I'll need to start thinking about the rules I'll use. Smiley

USA is going to get second in the group. Beat Ghana, tie Portugal, beat Germany who's already qualified. Not that hard folks. Let's do it. USA USA USA

If Germany can win their group - and it's not that small an if - their path to the semi looks relatively easy. That too has got a history repeating vibe to it (and thinking of the 90s: Especially if they promptly mess it up in the quarterfinal. Heh. Bosnia sounds perfect.)

Sorry. This is Germany. When they're already qualified, or even heavily favored to qualify, but are still playing for first place is probably the one situation where you don't stand any chance at all.

What you need to hope for is that Germany mess up against Portugal, are not in second place after game two, and absolutely MUST win against you to go through. They're much more beatable that way.
