Two questions: (1), will you continue Kal's negotiations with Iran?  (2), do you envision them being in any way successful?

Yes, I do plan on continuing negotiations with Iran. While for many seated here, the idea of negotiating with the Iranian government does not sit well, Kalwejt worked hard to set up these circumstances and we would be fools to throw them away. That doesn't mean we will in any way capitulate to any Iranian aggression that might exist. However, these are a path forward to what we hope is a brighter and more peaceful future for the Middle East.

As for my vision for their success, I can't say. While having served as Acting Secretary of External Affairs for the last week and a half, I haven't delved into the specifics of our business with Iran, nor met them yet myself.

Time expires on this tomorrow, so if anyone has any last minute question, please asks them.

Cathcon, in the Government Oversight and Reform Committee we are investigating SoIA and GM performance as part of a broader discussion of economic policy. In these deliberations, there has been talk of placing requirements on outgoing cabinet officials, either in the form of a formal report to their successors, or what have you to ensure that each incoming official nows the primary issues facing the Department and the actions of the previous occupant as it relates to them. Would you care to offer an opinion on placing such a requirement on cabinet officials?

That requirement sounds like a very good idea. Otherwise incoming officials might only be left with questions that receive vague answers. Of course I haven't read the rest of the bill, so I can't give a full endorsement. However that specific looks like it would be worthy of its own bill even. It'd help certain people out a lot. Wink

There is no bill to read at this point, it is a committee hearing. Tongue
