Some people are saying some pretty disgusting things about Anna Meares on twitter.

Man, that soccer game yesterday sure was a heartbreaking match Sad Canada always brings their A game against the US in these major tournaments, but they've not won yet.

Ironic that the winning US goal against "my country" was scored by the person who is, by far, my favourite player in modern women's soccer.

What is with your obsession with her?

I used to have a crush on Kara Lang, but her knee went wonky and now she's in the broadcast booth. If she was still playing, we probably would've beat the US. (Clearly, we need to diversify our goal scorers- too much reliance on Christine Sinclair)

I'm not "obsessed" with her, but she's really good looking and she's one of the top players on the US squad afaik.

Nice bit of trade unionism going on at the men's pole vault, looks like the qualification may stop at 5.50, with 16 going through to the final, instead of twelve. Being led by reigning champ, Australia's Steve Hooker, who would qualify anyway in 8th position.

All very positive, all in agreement. Victory to the workers!

Although the Spaniard looks like he may break ranks...

And they're jumping again Sad

Bureaucrats win. Due to two of the athletes being scabs.

Union wins, 14 in to the final. Tonnes of camaraderie (spelling?) Between the athletes, and a dash of logic from the officials.

A victory for the workers seems most appropriate given the part of London in question.

It really was great to watch. Americans hugging Russians, Koreans massaging Germans, Frenchmen moping, and a curly ranga solidarity leader in bright yellow.

Australia take Gold, kiwis silver, Danes bronze in the sailing. Kiwis carrying the flag of NZ and the silver fern unity flag, nice. I'm really looking forward to them changing their flag, might convince us to do the same at last.

2 medals to start the day. However, Van Koeverden was supposed to win gold Sad We still have just one gold so far.

Rhe bmx is happenning, we've got reasonable hopes of three medals, hopefully including at least one gold, fingers crossed.

Oh my god, first Cian O'Connor missed out on a gold medal jump by .02, then he lost the bronze-silver medals jump at the last fence.

Great semi between the kiwis and the Dutch in the women's hockey, Dutch went through after a shootout, but kiwis did quite well to hold the Netherlands to a tie.

I fully expect we'll be wiped off the floor in the men's game, but I think the Opals might just give you a run for your money, especially if Jackson and Cambage play as well as they are able - they're both at least in the top 5 players in the world, and we have a reasonable support crew around them. That said, Jackson hasn't been at her best so far at the games, so she'll need to lift.

I'm so annoyed the beach volleyball final's on right in the middle of athletic finals. I've seen hardly any knockout stages thanks to the scheduling. I'm able to watch Brazil China right now, but it's not great.

Which silver fern flag was it?

Did you see how it ended? That turnaround in the second set was cool.

they could have not stopped at 5.50 because Lavillenie hadn't entered the race yet (he started jumping at 5.60).

I wonder what kind of unofficial flags would be used for Canada had we not done away with the red ensign in 1965.

Almost 50 years later and our Commonwealth brothers are still holding on to their silly colonial flags. Quite surprising considering Australia is considerably more anti-monarchy than we are (especially outside of Quebec). ... if only Ontario could get rid of its red ensign.
