I would have been a huge Rockefeller fan if I'd been around then, but I'd probably have voted for Nixon anyway.  In the actual election (Nixon/Agnew vs. Humphrey/Muskie) I'd probably have voted for Nixon too, for the following reasons:

1. He was the Republican candidate.
2. I would have been very much pro-civil rights and anti-violence.
3. I would have supported a responsible end to the Vietnam War (pull out, but only after the job is done.)

I am conservative, at least by today's definition of conservatism.  The views I hold now probably would have been considered moderate or even liberal in the 60s.  I would have probably been a huge Rockefeller supporter/fan because he was courageous in his convictions and fought for civil rights.

Yes.  At the 1964 Republican National Convention in San Francisco, when he went to give his speech, he was booed and heckled by the delegates, who were mostly Goldwater supporters.  When they began chanting "We want Barry" over and over again, he shook his head and gave off a scowl.  He was willing to stand against the party's choice of Goldwater because he believed it was wrong.

Well of course it was wrong to him. He hadn't been nominated. While I'll give credit to certain individuals, liberal or conservative, Republican or Democrat, who I think stood on principles, I don't typically place Rocky in that group.
