Canada is known for its variety of international superstars. At regular intervals, they conquer the charts in their neighboring country and all over the world.
Therefore it's about time to pay them attention through a thread in this forum.

The percentages don't make any sense.
Am I the first to notice that?

Write-in: Marc-André Hamelin

It's ridiculous that he's not included in this poll.

I boycott this poll for having the audacity to exclude the Band. Even though they were in fact only 80% Canadian.

I think CANCON is a good reason for this. The government mandates that 40% of the music on the radio here is Canadian, so it's easy to get air play and become popular in Canada, and then it's an easy jump to the larger US market.

On this list, I voted Barenaked Ladies, although I would write in the Tragically Hip and Stompin' Tom Connors. Also, you missed a lot of artists, many of whom also made it big in the US. Where's Gordon Lightfoot for example? BTO?

I only know a few of these, but I vehemently protest the exclusion of Bryan Adams, a fellow Colonel By high school alumni.

Okay, not listing Bachman–Turner Overdrive was a mistake, not listing Bryan Adams is inexcusable. So, I've locked the voting.
Any further suggestions?

I like Arcade Fire enough that it's kind of embarrassing.

It's a shame, Leonard Cohen isn't in that list. He and Neil Young are my favourites. I like Joni Mitchell, Kd Lang and Arcade Fire a bit. I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of fine and interesting Canadian musicians out there. What about the Wainwright family: Loudon, Rufus, Martha and Kate McGarrigle? Loudon Wainwright is from is from NY actually, but McGarrigle is Quebecois.
