Some people get very worked up about this. The reason is a mystery to me, as they're very similar in what they do, but I give the edge to Android, on the ground that it allows you to install apps from outside the official app store.

On the other hand, I have no idea what Google was thinking when it decided to rename the Android Market the "Google Play Store."

Yeah, on the second thought, I probably should have included them. I think Windows Phone's market share is pretty dismal, though. Anyone have usage data?

Here's a graph for market share, though it might already be out of date, considering how quickly smart phones have caught on and how rapidly RIM has been losing market share:

Let's be real here, Android and iOS are the only platforms that really matter right now, they are like the US and USSR during the Cold War.

I personally prefer Android's open-source and customizable nature. I'm the guy who goes in and tweaks every setting and roots the device to add my own modifications. It's really difficult to do that with Apple's walled-in garden and determination to force you to use iTunes.

Come to think of it, I left out a second complaint about iOS: Apple won't allow genuine alternatives to Safari in its app store. When you download Chrome for iOS, what you get is basically Safari with a Chrome skin superimposed on it. Worse, it's Safari without Safari's JavaScript accelerator.

I guess the big down side to Android devices is that you aren't assured of timely upgrades. (My Droid X still runs Gingerbread 2.3.3.) You can always get a Galaxy Nexus, though.

Well, my iOs has been anything but reliable. And I hear a lot of good things about Android. I'm inclined to lean that way at this point.

What device are you using? I noticed my iPad (first generation) slowed down a hair or two after upgrading to iOS 5. I think it's starved for RAM.

I'm on 5. You might be right. That would actually explain away most of my problems. Seems ridiculous though. I guess they just don't give a shet in the runup to the iPhone 5

Death to iOS.

I haven't read the article, but I firmly support Simfan's efforts to blame Lena Dunham for our society's rot.

Never had an Android phone, but I have no complaints with iOS.
