Leans R, Martinez probably has advantages due to neutralising the Hispanic vote.

Her Democratic opponent won the hispanic vote in 2010.

Anybody know his political positions yet?

Here's his campaign website for when he was running for reelection in 2010.

Wow, he's getting in awful early.  But the last time I checked Martinez was pretty popular, so barring any unforeseen circumstances between now and then, I expect her to be reelected.

Given Martinez's competence and popularity, as well as how likely an Obama win is at this point, I don't see Mr. King pulling through in a midterm barring a monster of a shift somewhere along the line.

What would happen if Romney picks Martinez for VP? A special election to fill her seat in 2012?

I believe Lieutenant Governor John Sanchez would take the office. Sanchez is a Republican and was the losing gubernatorial candidate to Bill Richardson in 2002. He is considered to be a Tea Partier and to be generally on the right flank of the Republican Party. He tried to run for Bingaman's open Senate seat this year, but he was outmaneuvered by Heather Wilson for the Republican nomination, and dropped out when he realized he wasn't going to win.

Also, as if on cue, PPP has released a poll of New Mexico showing Martinez beating King by 12%, 51-39. Here's a link: http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2012/07/heinrich-starts-general-up-5.html
