I don't want the same three people to be on every committee, so I won't be declaring for this one.  However, Clarence won't be available for the next week or so, if I recall correctly, so shouldn't his declaration be given special consideration?

I declare my desire to be on the National Security Committee. My idealist, cosmopolitanist, constructionist outlook on foreign affairs would make me a decent yin to the yang that would almost certainly be the nationalism and realism of Sen. Clarence, who I quite strongly believe should be on this committee.

In my offline/RL experiences I have taken and performed excellently in university courses on world human geography, international relations, comparative political systems, international development, ethnic studies, and threat analysis - along with other courses more generally themed in the social sciences and government. I also received a certificate of accomplishment from the NYL Forum on Defense, Intelligence, and Diplomacy back in 2007. Though this all is largely irrelevant in the greater scope of things, in the setting of this game it is my suspicion that I'm more knowledgeable on matters of national security than most folks.

(Edit: ...well, at least so far as American civilians in their teens and early twenties go!)

On the other hand, being the most junior member of this Senate and having a tendency to take on radical positions unrepresentative of the majority of Atlasians from time to time, I'd of course understand if other candidates would be considered more desirable for these posts. Given my junior standing and impression that I am not the most qualified person here, however, I would have no intention of becoming the chairman of this committee anytime soon, if that is in any way of reassurance. Smile

Scott- thank you very much. Our flight is actually tomorrow... my mistake for booking the wrong date!

I declare for this committee and would like to say that I believe Ben and Redalgo would be great assets to the committee....I say this being completely opposed in my point of view to Redalgo's foreign policy but his education that he has described and his willingness to discuss ideas would make him well suited for any role- he has been a joy to serve with in the Senate and plan to vote for him and Ben as the members of this committee

Senators Ben, Andrew, is there any chance you would be willing to discuss your worldviews a bit as they pertain to security and international affairs? What should be our goals? How should we interact with other countries? To what extents are national sovereignty and unilateralism in policy important? I simply ask because I am more familiar with Clarence's take on some of this stuff but have not yet read posts in which you've eluded to your positions. Smile

Redalgo, my views are very similar to Clarence's.  I believe in maintaining our presence abroad, while also working with allies likes the UK, South Korea, Japan, Israel, and organizations like NATO and the UN.  I am a firm believer in spreading democracy, and helping young democracies grow.  I am not a constant supporter of unilateralism, but I believe it has a place.  For detailed positions on individual nations, you can see my year long tenure as SoEA, and the positions I've taken in various Senate debates.

Until I either hear back from Andrew or during the vote go snooping around for old posts of his to figure out what kind of views he has, my preferences are undecided.

I strongly believe that other than maintaining our presence, and that we need to strengthen our relationship with our allies. I must admit, it's difficult answering this last.. I feel like a broken record. I feel like my views are very similar to Clarence, and especially Ben. I've supported his views and opinions while he was SoEA. Regardless of if I am brought onto this committee or not, I can't think of anyone better fit for this committee than him.

Ben is leading 7-0
Redalgo is leading 6-1
Clarence is leading 4-3
Andrew is leading 4-3

At this point Ben and Redalgo have won really.

The problem is going to come if all three of the remaining people vote for both Andy and Clarence.

So it looks to me like the Committee is me, Redalgo, and Andrew.  Is that right?
