The advisers spoke on the condition of anonymity because Mr Romney’s campaign requested that they not criticise the President to foreign media.

That's because President Obama's insanely popular abroad and the GOP name is villianous.

What kind of logic is this?
People could have ignored jmfcst, Teddy, et al. as well, and they were still banned.

Popular and villainous with whom?

Yes, please. Let's compare a troll to Teddy.  And it's hard to ban someone when  people encourage and push him to troll even further. The answer is simple.. STOP.FEEDING.THE.TROLL.

The one of your examples that I know about, it is staggering that you of all people would reference a protest by the unpopular and vile FPI as a way to damn Obama

Then I just thought we needed to compare what a Romney visit to Britain would look like compared to the diplomatic fiascoes of Obama's visits.  Maybe that should have been a separate post.

Highly ironic considering today's events...

Obama isn't really that much into UK or Europe as a whole, but honestly few Europeans care, they will rather have a democrat who mostly ignore them and who they can ignore, than a Republican who pull us into all kinds of messes.

A GOP candidate makes some remarks which are as factual as they are innocuous and the press misrepresents them?  Maybe the British don't have the experience with this common tactic that Americans do.

Romney seems like he'd have a hard time making a strong personal connection with anyone else. Not that he's naturally offensive, but he has this dorky superhero persona.

Well, the British media is awash with Romney's comments, Cameron's cutting response and Romney's numerous apologies, so 'diplomatic fiasco'? Pretty much.

Cameron's response was pretty funny:

"We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course it's easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere."

You Brits, your grandeur just trips all of us poor Yanks up.  Our prez comes over there and talks over your anthem, and a candidate for prez comes over and doesn't know how big cites work.  Maybe it's kind of like a kid who ran away from home returning to visit his parents, and being so nervous, the kid does and says everything wrong.  Or, maybe it's not grandeur, and maybe it's not like being a runaway...maybe, when we Yanks visit other countries, we just act stupid.  Tongue Smiley

Obama obviously thinks he's a French socialist instead of a British citizen!

It sounds like a hit piece by some liberal reporter.  Many brits are very anti-religion and hate mormons and conservative christians.  Frankly, I'm surprised that Romney is visiting Europe at all.  He doesn't work for the Olympic comittee anymore, and he should spend time traveling the real united states and not our past overlords.

In the GOP primaries, no one was closer to Obama than Romney -- the unapologetic architect of the prototype for ObamaCare.  Almost nothing will change if Romney wins.

GHW Bush:  Yale
Clinton:  Yale
GW Bush:  Yale and Harvard
Obama:  Harvard
Romney:  Harvard

Did you get rejected when you applied to Harvard and Yale?  You seem to have a beef against those two institutions in particular. It seems a tad odd as a fixation, as if attendance there affixes a scarlet letter to one's chest.

LOL -- god no, I could never afford one of those schools.  No one but I paid a dime for any of my college or college-years expenses.  I used to the G.I. Bill to attend Big (and Cheap) State University and Law School.

But I'm experienced with the "clubbish" nature inherent in elite institutions, and that's what I'm getting at by pointing out that these five guys are all from the same "club".

Btw, one of my best friends in college went to Yale Law and my nephew just graduated from Harvard Law.  It seems like I heard recently that one of my other nephews or nieces may also be Harvard-bound, but I can't recall for sure.  Oh, and my middle daughter says she's going to apply to Princeton when she finishes high school.
Its easier to get into Harvard as a graduate student, if you have good grades from a respectable school, since less people apply to grad school.  Mitt went to Stanford and BYU.
The easier ivy league schools for undergrads are Cornell (liberal arts school), UPenn, and Columbia.  I find that ivy league grads have a higher energy level and intelligence than regular people.  It might be confidence and charisma, or just a can-do attitude.  I don't necessarily think you should blame someone for being rich and successful.  But the funny thing is that Reagan and Nixon weren't Ivy Leaguers but Clinton and Obama are.

Unlike the real cool superhero... (I wish I could say for the dignity of the office that all of these pictures are artistic renditions, but one isn't.)

You can put this one on your i-phone or t-shirt

You can readily see the studly resemblance of Superman to an Illinois state senator who had issues that voting "present" didn't solve:

As I pointed out, Romney said things that were neither untrue nor idiotic but Leftists are pretending that he did -- even forcing "conservatives" to react.  It reminds one of how John McCain was recently called a "numb nuts" for going berzerk on the Senate floor about Michelle Bachmann without having read the letters that she (and other GOP congresspersons) actually wrote.

You see, the Leftists that control most of the news media -- well, most of all media actually -- have a meme:

1.  Everything a conservative says is stupid.
2.  Therefore, if a conservative says anything, it's stupid.

I see there's even a new thread dedicated to proving me right on this one.

Those pesky, leftist Murdochs:

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/olympics/article3487608.ece

The point of it all being that Romney's currently on the softest, puffiest kind of foreign event imaginable -- visiting the capital of a longtime ally while they're hosting the Olympics, an event Romney has a strong personal connection to. And he managed to generate tons of bad press coverage for himself, at home and in the UK, in an entirely self-inflicted and preventable way.

Is Romney the kind of guy who, when visiting your home, tells you your furnace is inefficient and questions your wife's eagerness to have him as a guest?
Which might well be true and non-idiotic things to say, but you'd still be kind of irritated with him, wouldn't you?

No, you're not right. For starters the more powerful media over there is right, not left, but that's irrelevant in this case. He's said something that hurts national pride, and that's all that matters

Alot of times it is hard to understand another background or race. Perhaps this is due to years and centuries of evolution. The best we can do is work together to make the world a better place.

Indeed. I do find it interesting that Iceland, the other case of Northern Europeans stumbling onto empty land, lines up so nicely with the Anglo colonies.

I don't see how it backs your point though? You're saying that Obama doesn't get Anglo culture because he's too traditional and not focused enough on secularism or self expression?

And the US and other Anglo colonies are closer to freaking Austria then they are the UK... Ireland, Italy and others being about equal to the UK in terms of distance from the former colonies. I have a hard time taking that graph seriously when it positions Italy and the UK slap-bang alongside each other.

Some of the countries are terribly miscategorized. It is safe to say that the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Slovenia, and Croatia are part of "Catholic Europe". Communist influence in such countries is dead. Identity of western Germany as "Protestant Europe" is shaky because parts of western and especially southern Germany are strongly Catholic.

The "Asia" category lumps countries as disparate as the Philippines (which is culturally similar more to Latin America -- consider its history -- than any other part of Asia, even to such near-neighbors as China, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, and Malaysia) with India (a region in itself) or Turkey. There is no distinction between Islamic and non-Islamic countries.  Morocco and South Africa have little in common. Jordan and Morocco belong together.
