As I'll be at a wedding tomorrow, I'm going to bring this amendment to a vote now.  Members will vote AYE, NAY, or ABSTAIN.  This will be a 24-hour vote (although it'll likely stay open longer than that):

Doesn't the clause "... this section shall not be changed before January 1, 2014" have more of a symbolic rather than an actual impact anyway? Even if this clause becomes part of the constitution, a new constitutional amendment which would remove this clause could be introduced and voted on by the people any time.

A question for JCL: why did you vote after the vote expired?  Did you even?  That's why I didn't vote.

You can probably still vote. Note what Inks said when he opened the vote:

I didn't see Inks close the vote so I voted.

My interpretation of that is that since it's in that section, even that clause can't be removed.  If I'm wrong, it'll make for an interesting court case.

Voting is now closed.  The AYEs are 2, and the NAYs are 0, with 1 ABSTAIN, and 2 not voting.  The AYEs have it and the amendment is agreed to.  Debate on the amended bill will now continue.

Seeing no further debate, the bill (in the form written below) is brought to a final vote.  Members will vote AYE, NAY, or ABSTAIN.  This will be a 48-hour vote:

And I'll point out - the fact that we have yet to hold a vote where all 5 of our members vote is precisely why I'm opposed to this amendment.

I urge the Assembly to pass this amendment and give the people the final call on what has been a very dividing issue.

What Inks pointed out here is very important - it shows why the amendment is unnecessary and makes the situation worse.

Voting is now closed.  The AYEs are 3, and the NAYs are 0.  The AYEs have it, and the amendment is passed.  The amendment is now passed onto the people for a vote.

For the record, a public vote on the amendment will start next Thursday.
