An intensely close primary

Gov. Polnut (D-IL) v Gov. Scott (D-CT)

Gov Scott's religiousness helps flip most of the South and a lot local support in the Northeast. I get good support from the latino communities and do well in the West and the upper mid-west. As we're both moderate, I expect to see some sort of strong left-wing candidate who could end up King-maker at the end of the day. I say it's close enough to end up brokered.

1948

Having assumed office upon the death of his boss, President TNF would lead the country through the end of the Second World War and into a period of uneasy reconversion to a peacetime economy. A New Dealer through and through, the President would retain most of FDR's most trusted lieutenants and seek to expand the New Deal under the guise of his own "Fair Deal" program, which promised guaranteed access to medical care for all, and a job and a home for every American, as well as increased federal aid to education. Democrats held control of Congress in the 1946 midterm elections, with the President campaigning aggressively to "retain the New Deal and expand it."

The 80th Congress would thus be one of the most productive in American history, although it would quickly run into trouble as right-wing propagandists on the radio and in the newspapers turned on what they saw as a "Red" administration led by the ex-Socialist Party member turned Democratic President. A flurry of legislation, guaranteeing full employment, expanding coverage of the minimum wage and effectively doubling it, the use of publicly-owned war plants to build prefabricated housing and railroad cars, national health insurance, federalizing education finance (passed over the howls of Southern members of Congress), and expanded coverage in Social Security would all be the order of the day. The President also made quick work of desegregating the armed forces and promoting racial integration in government, with federal hiring following new quotas aimed at bringing more minority groups into government established for the first time.

On foreign policy, the administration adopted a policy of "co-dominion" with the USSR, effectively dividing the world between American and Soviet spheres of influence. The "Red administration" also did it's best to protect American communists from attacks by the HUAC, resisting calls for expulsions of communists from trade unions, teaching positions, and administrative posts at the local and state levels. All of this, combined with the relative ease in expansion of the welfare state, would ultimately undo the administration going into the 1948 Presidential race.

The Republican nominee, Senator Goldwater of Washington, would attack the President for "appeasing" the Soviet Union abroad and "expanding socialism into every area of economic life" at home. His sterling conservative credentials, close ties with the business community and military contractors, as well as his support for civil rights made his nomination a lock for the GOP in 1948. Southern defectors, upset with the President for his use of quotas to hire more minorities in government and his decision to begin enforcing the 14th and 15th Amendment via the Justice Department, would split the Democratic ticket in the South and help the nominee of the State's Rights Democratic Party, Virginia Senator shua, take the Deep South.

The nation, tired of almost two decades of Democratic rule and growing more fearful of the Soviet Union (as well as fed up with daily strikes which the President and the administration had strongly weighed in on, on the side of labor), ultimately catapulted Goldwater into the White House in a shocking upset. Sen. Goldwater's victory would come as a complete surprise to most observers, who fully expected the President to win an easy second term in the White House.

President TNF of Kentucky and Senator Gass3268 of Wisconsin (Democratic Party): 45.07%
Senator Goldwater of Washington and Senator MattVT of Vermont (Republican Party): 51.92%
Sen. shua of Virginia and Gov. Dereich of Florida (States' Rights Democratic Party): 2.41%

Considering my and your political beliefs, most of the Republican states aren't going to vote either for a snooty Liberal or a Socialist.

Just using the 2012 Map.

Senator TNF (D,KY)/Senator Gass3268(D,WI):166 EV, 47.9%

Representative Guntaker(I,UK)/Fmr. Secretary Kathleen Sebelius(I,KS):209 EV, 47.8%

Other(Libertarian,Constitution,etc.):4.3%

Abstention:163 EV.

President Jefferson took office in 2021 to huge popularity. Unemployment dropped below 5% in March of that year, and President Jefferson secured a major campaign promise in his first 100 days by presenting a balanced budget to Congress, which passed both chambers with 70% of support from its members.

Meanwhile, Congressman Badgate - who improbably unseated TX-24 Republican Rep. Kenny Marchant in 2016 - is appointed Senator by Governor Julian Castro, elected in 2018, after there is outcry that the Governor may appoint his own brother. Senator Badgate replaced John Cornyn after his sudden death. Sad Due to Texas' lax appointment laws, Senator Badgate does not have to face the statewide voters until 2026.

Senator Badgate declines to run in 2024, and endorses Governor Julian Castro. Two days after the Democratic National Convention, however, Governor Castro suffers an aneurism and dies. Vice Presidential candidate Senator Alison Grimes declines to take the top of the ticket. After two days of emergency voting online by the delegates of the DNC, Senator Badgate is improbably nominated. Because why not! Senator Badgate convinces Grimes to stay on the ticket, but many Americans who were undecided flock to President Jefferson because they know him.

The debates were considered to be quality discussions of policy, but the President was clearly the better politician on the debate stage. Senator Badgate is considered to have won the town hall debate, but disappointed in the final debate on foreign policy. As election day approaches, President Jefferson has gained more support by opening up on his second term agenda...

Texas Senator Badgate / Kentucky Senator Alison Lundergan Grimes - 166
President Jefferson / Vice President Something-Or-Other - 372

ALTERNATE ENDING: In 2023, crisis erupts in Taiwan and President Jefferson digs his heels in too far. A trade war is initiated by China, decimating America's economy and putting 19.5 million Americans unemployed by August 2024. Even still, toxically unpopular President Jefferson looks like he may pull out victory because of Senator Badgate's low name recognition before the debates.

Texas Senator Badgate / Kentucky Senator Alison L. Grimes - 279
President Jefferson / Vice President Mary Cheney - 259

2012
After the impeachment of President Jefferson and VP Kasich, Speaker Goldwater was named President, he later selected former Sec. State Colin Powell, his economic policy marked a Libertarian turn for America between 2010-2012, known as the "Yellow Crush", though driving off Tea Party Candidates after coming out in support of Gay Marriage and Athiesm, Senator Ted Cruz (Appointed after the untimely death of John Cornyn in late 2009), challenged him from the right, he gained a lot of steam, winning his home state of Texas, Arizona, Nevada, and surprisingly, even Wisconsin, though Goldwater pulled through after Cruz's campaign was drained of funds after the resignation of Chief of Staff Steve Stockman, meanwhile, Governor Guntaker of Wisconsin, who defeated Scott Walker in a landslide of 56% to 43%, also famous for his stand against Gun Control, passing both a Hand Gun and assault Weapons ban in the space of 5 months, spoke up to run after his approvals were at 50%, he faced an uphill climb to defeat favorite for the nomination and 2008 runner up Mary Landreiu, but after Landreiu's campaign started imploding after a series of bad Debate performances, notable gaffes, and flip flopping on a number of issues, she pulled out of the race to fundraise with Senate Candidates, allowing Guntaker to narrowly snatch Iowa, followed by a .2% win over Senator Liz Warren (Beat Brown in 2010), who then pulled out herself, Guntaker found himself waltzing to the nomination, but with troubles from the Religious/Evangelical Democrats, who took issue with his Social Liberalism and being an Athiest, he soothed the worries by picking Rep. Scott from Arkansas, an outspoken Religious Moderate, Guntaker's road to beating Goldwater was set, in the Debates, Guntaker tied with Goldwater on Economic Issues, but made gaffes when it came to Social Issues, not wanting to offend the Religious right, but he pulled through in the second and third, due to Goldwater being tied up and stressed after visiting former President Jefferson in Illinois, in the end, 2012 would go down as one of the most exciting races in history.

Gov. Guntaker(D,WI)/Rep. Scott(D,AR):347 EV, 52%

Pres. Goldwater(R,WA)/VP Colin Powell(R,NY):191 EV, 46%

2008:

Social Democrat Chairperson SWE (SD-NY): 350, 53.4%
Libertarian Activist ElectionsGuy (L-WI): 188, 45.8%
Others: 0, 0.8%

A very polarizing election, but it ends with a clear winner. People voted largely on economic and foreign policy issues, as the two had agreements over most social/cultural issues. The nation wanted more economic security and intervention after the 2008 collapse, and they said no to laissez-faire economics clearly in a mini-blowout.

Governor ElectionsGuy (I-WI) - 281 EVs[/color
Senator Goldwater (R-Wa) - 257 EVs

Due to the candidate very similar views on domestic policy, the election becomes about foreign policy, where ElectionGuy's more cautious and non-interventionist views turn out to be slightly more popular than Goldwater's hawkish interventionism.

Sen. Goldwater (R-WA)Sad 327
Sen. IceSpear (D-PA)Sad 211

With social issues virtually a non issue in the campaign, the country originally preferred Goldwater's economic conservatism over IceSpear's economic liberalism, so he led in the polls by big margins. However, after a rough campaign in which IceSpear relentlessly attacked Goldwater's neoconservatism, the margin tightened, but not enough to deprive Goldwater of a relatively comfortable victory. Interestingly, both candidates lost their home state.

Incumbent President IceSpear (R-Penn.), President Roosevelt's handpicked successor, crushed Governor Reaganfan (D-Ohio) and Congressman TNF (S-Ill), though the latter won the Socialist Party's first ever electoral votes, taking the states of Oklahoma and Nevada.

1964

President Butafly (D-Ill) is challenged by left-wing populist Sen. TNF (D-Ill) for renomination. The two are ultimately similar enough in ideology that it largely turns into a regional coalition contest, with the President ultimately winning re-nomination fairly easily.
